Director, Market Research will work in partnership with the Vice President, Marketing to develop the global strategy and market research agenda for the Society. This position will grasp key Society positions and identify useful efforts to support critical decision making throughout the organization. This position will work directly with internal clients to provide strategic guidance to solve brand challenges and to meet the Society’s business needs.
Determine industry growth rates and growth potential for segments- suggesting, developing and implementing opportunity action plans.
Proactively mine behavioral and demographic data to inform organizational strategy and progress toward business objectives.
Disseminate learnings throughout the organization and executive teams, as appropriate.
Create and prioritize the market research strategy as guided by SHRM’s mission/goals/objectives.
Measure and quantify the trade offs, inter-relationships and elasticity of brand, advertising, promotions, direct mail and other sales and marketing levers to determine optimal investment.
Identify root cause of non-performance; suggest remedial action to execute turnaround efforts.
Frame, research and identify new growth ideas, report trends, provide detailed business analysis and make recommendations for the growth of existing and for new products.
Manage and develop a team of 3 direct reports. Coaches, mentors and trains the team on the latest products and tools.
Ensures that marketing and business decision-making is supported by timely, accurate and cost-effective data and analysis.
Actively direct, field, analyze, and report on major projects for internal stakeholders including but not limited to: concept testing and pricing studies, data modeling projects, member satisfaction, brand tracking, content and customer needs, ad and message testing, and outcome driven innovation research to include focused brainstorming exercises.

· Microsoft with SPSS and/or SAS required and familiarity with Sawtooth and/or Perseus/Websurveyer desirable.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
· Master’s degree in, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Economics, Market Research, Marketing, Statistics or related field.
· Equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
· 8 to 10 years of experience conducting detailed customer or member research, including multivariate and univariate approaches to segmentation, key driver analysis, and market basket analysis.
· Proficiency with SPSS and/or SAS required and familiarity with Sawtooth and/or Perseus/Websurveyer, DatStat, or Confirmit desirable.
· At least 8 years of experience organizing, facilitating and/or managing large scale quantitative and qualitative research studies.
· Strong written and oral communication skills required, including excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of staff, especially senior management.
· Requires analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to prioritize, plan, and carry out responsibilities independently.
· Excellent research project management skills required.
· Must be able to distill large amounts of statistical and quantitative data into actionable recommendations and communicate same to Executive and Senior Management.
