Director, Medical Communications Job in Cambridge 02139, Massachusetts US
Reporting to the Senior Director of Medical Affairs, the Director of Medical Communications will oversee the publication and medical communication strategy and implementation of related activities for all AVEO pipeline programs. The incumbent will provide leadership as medical communication expert for Medical Affairs and may supervise an internal and/or external team of medical writers/consultants and agencies as appropriate. We are looking for an individual who will approach this newly created position with energy, focus, and collaborative attitude to build a first-class publications and medical communications function at AVEO.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement publication and medical communication strategy according to and in fulfillment of program team goals
- Manage and direct development and production of all medical and scientific publications and collateral (including meeting abstracts, posters, oral presentations, journal publications, slide sets, investigator websites, etc.) via collaboration with internal and external investigator authors, enforcement of adherence to publications process guidelines and supervision of internal writers as well as external agencies for each project
- Provide courtesy review of publications related to Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISTs)
- Coordinate review of publications/presentations with partners as required, including leadership of joint AVEO/Astellas tivozanib publication team
- Establish strong working relationships with key stakeholders internally (program teams, legal, regulatory, clinical) and externally (e.g., consultants, advisors, medical thought leaders, partners)
- Develop and actively manage relationships with journals and publishers
- Develop and improve industry best practice in publication management and maintain technical proficiency and professional skills via continuing education (e.g. conferences, seminars)
- Administer budgets and establish performance requirements
- Manages relationship, project plans and budgets with external publications agencies
- Provide regular publication and medical communication status reports to Medical Affairs staff/management and program teams
Qualifications:
- Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD) with a minimum of 5-7 years medical writing/publication experience. Experience in all phases of clinical and medical affairs strategic development is required
- Proficient level of understanding in drug development processes and pharmaceutical business and in-depth knowledge of ICMJE, good publication practices and journal review/selection
- Significant experience in leading teams
- Ability to write/edit scientific articles, posters and abstracts, and to prepare medical communications collateral (e.g., slide sets, investigator websites, etc.).
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, team leadership skills. Ability to work in and lead teams of internal and external stakeholders is a must
- Strong strategic, communication, negotiation and organizational skills
- Ability to function with minimal supervision
