GENERAL SUMMARY

 

The Managing Director of Business Development is responsible for domestic and international marketing and sales and working collaboratively internally and externally to create opportunities and strategies for growth.  He/She presents a positive image of the organization while ensuring good communication and flow of information to all departments regarding sales and marketing practices.  He/She is also responsible for ensuring the Sales and Marketing Department conforms to ISO and quality requirements, trade and export laws, and follows procedures as documented.  He/She manages staff in the Sales, Marketing, and Tradeshow functions.

 

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

1.      Sets up and manages a domestic and international distribution system.

2.      Develops and manages relationships with domestic and international customers.

3.      Attends tradeshows and represents the Company.

4.      Develops and manages budgeting for sales and marketing.

5.      Manages sales promotional programs.

6.      Responsible for developing sales plans, selecting and evaluating sales personnel, and reporting sales performance to management.

7.      Meets with and directs all sales personnel, domestic and international representatives and agents concerning LDI’s compliance obligations.

8.      Reports about Sales Department’s compliance with Company policy regarding export controls, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, etc.

9.      Assists in Contract Management by developing project plans and documentation, obtaining and soliciting information from customers about product and product enhancements; may oversee creation and review of user manuals.

10.  Is aware of warning indicators or red flags that may trigger need for legal review or additional review of sales transactions by the President/CEO prior to finalization of the export transaction.

11.  As a manager of staff, assists the Affirmative Action Officer with the following: 

·         Identification of problem areas and elimination of barriers to equal employment opportunities and affirmative action practices;

·         Periodic review of hiring and promotion patterns and training programs to attain affirmative action placement goals and objectives;

·         Review of employee qualifications to ensure minorities and women are given full opportunity for transfers and promotions;

·         Career coaching for employees as needed;

·         Adherence to the Company’s policy of equal opportunity for all employees and communication to employees supervised to promote understanding, support, and adherence.

 

OTHER DUTIES

  1. Able to make domestic and overseas business trips as needed.
  2. Other duties may be assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages staff to include performance reviews, work instructions, and corrective action.  Implements plans and controls activities related to staff.

SUPERVISION

·         Works under general supervision.

·         Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.

·         Applies knowledge and best practices to situations and makes recommendations.

Makes decisions based on knowledge of field and operating standards and evaluates practices for compliance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related business field preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

·         Successful history of ten or more years leading domestic and international sales teams with proven experience in defense contracting industry preferred.  Profitable track record of designing and implementing innovative and effective marketing programs.

·         Minimum of ten years’ experience managing budgets, developing reporting metrics, and managing sales teams and direct reports.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

·         Ability to travel up to 50% to meet with customers, vendors, and distributors.

·         Ability to sit for extended periods of time up to 50% of time.

·         Job requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, or lifting up to 25 pounds 20% of time.

·         Ability to work for extended periods in front of a computer screen.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

·         While performing the duties of the job, the employee is often exposed to a manufacturing environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

·         Occasional exposure to glues, epoxy, and isopropyl alcohol in the Production Department.
