Position Reports To: VP, Publishing
Position Summary:Responsible for the development and publication of all products in print, electronic or other format, in accordance with established schedules and company standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Editorial Team Leadership
- Hire, manage and develop Editors, Proofreaders, Art Department, Designers, and Writers (freelance and full-time)
- Through management of staff efforts and personal involvement, ensure the highest standards of quality in the copy and graphic content of all print, electronic and other products.
Editorial Operations
- Work with other department heads to establish production schedules for custom programs, coordinate department resources, solve publication issues and understand nature of client industry to produce successful programs.
- Manage trademark, copyright and other intellectual property matters as they relate to traditional and electronic publishing.
- Create and maintain the editorial calendar including all publications-related schedules.
- Improves existing techniques/methodologies or creates new techniques requiring the development of processes, technologies, and/or methods.
- Tightly manages the production costs of products where the Publications Director can impact those costs.
- Through department administration, assists in the overall increase of company profits
Product Development
- Keep abreast of industry benchmarks and trends of current publishing trends and strategies in print, electronic and other formats and help integrate that knowledge across the team.
- Conceptualizes, recommends, implements and creates new product ideas.
- Drive implementation of ideas to improve the effectiveness of and to add value to existing products, including working closely with marketing to develop effective ancillary products and premiums.
Online Development
- Develops and supports CCI technology/web structure.
- Oversees and approves all editorial/graphic content on CCI Web sites.
- Oversees development of marketing Web pages and sites, reviewing and critiquing prior to final implementation.
- Sales and Marketing Support
- Develop content strategy in line with Marketing and Sales needs.
- Create, edit and revise editorial and graphic content of all publications, marketing materials and in-house materials as necessary.
- Drive the design development of and develop the editorial content to support the marketing team.
- Shares product knowledge with sales personnel through regular programs, presentations and meetings.
- Drive direct mail designers/editors and reviews/critiques all direct mail packages prior to printing.
- Achieve goals for each promotional piece/channel (increased AOV, profit, etc.).
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum 5-7 years management experience in editorial and content development (traditional and online), both standard and custom.
- Ability to work across multiple departments to achieve desired results, with a focus on editorial, art, marketing, production and sales.
- Ability to adapt and evolve with strategic and technological changes to add value to publishing and marketing efforts
- Deep knowledge of monthly newsletter (online and offline) production.
- Experience in product development (offline and online)
- Excellent project management and problem-solving skill
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Analytical skills a plus.
- Experience with design and publishing software such as Adobe, Quark, etc
- Bachelor's Degree in related area
Desired Characteristics: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Extensive experience in migrating offline/print business models online.
- Print experience, preferably newsletter and visual communication.
