Director of Engineering & Technical Services
This position provides guidance and oversight to ensure consistent engineering practices and policies across all departments within the Distribution business unit. This Director role is accountable for:
§ The total current number of positions reporting up to this role in this organization: 115
o 4 Direct reports, 86 exempt positions and 25 non-exempt positions
§ Overseeing a team of managers, engineers and/or technical specialists
§ Cost effective operations of engineering projects and project management activities with continuous improvement of the Distribution engineering standards and policies
§ Strong coordination with Distribution Planning, Regulatory and Policy groups to champion a higher level of Engineering processes, policies and standards throughout the Business Unit
§ Ensure that the design and standard activities result in safe and reliable electrical systems
§ Responsible for the analysis and coordination required to integrate new facilities into the overall FPL system
§ Coordinate the design and selection of standard material and equipment based upon performance requirements, life cycle cost and reliability
§ Develop a team approach for design and standard development that utilizes data and operational experience
§ Develop project and process standards that facilitate easier procurement, material planning, increased engineering productivity, and easier constructability
§ Continuously evaluate and improve the execution of critical processes
§ This position requires creative problem solving and decision making, with an uncompromising focus on what is important, and what is not

Education:
§ Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Electrical Engineering preferred
§ A minimum of (10) years of leadership experience in the engineering field with strong project management skills, 10+ years in electrical or comparable industry
