JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Major purpose:

Responsible for the management of specified asset classes within the $11 billion securities portfolio, the Portfolio Manager position plays a pivotal role in achieving long term superior performance for our clients investment portfolio which includes MBS, CMO, CMBS, ABS, CLO, Municipals, Corporates, and other asset classes.
The Portfolio Manager will provide thought leadership with regard to market opportunities, devise portfolio strategies, and drive portfolio allocations and securities selection to achieve long-term superior returns within risk tolerance and established benchmarks.
The Portfolio Manager also will be accountable for proactively monitoring and managing portfolio risks through detailed collateral analysis, stress testing, dashboard reporting and portfolio positioning.

Major functions:

Overall accountable for the long term performance of the securities investment portfolio

Participate in and report to Asset-Liability and Credit Oversight Committees in all matters related to the investment portfolio including risk management. Design and formulate analytics, systems and processes to ensure appropriate control over risks and to comply with management mandates.

Keep apprised of, anticipate, and develop thought leadership with regard to market, economic, political and regulatory developments, as well as changes in rating agency outlooks and methodologies. Fully assess any potential impact and develop executable plans to address potential negative implications and capitalize on prospective opportunities.

Develop independent points of view with regard the relative values of competing investment opportunities. Devise, develop and implement portfolio strategies to achieve superior returns for the Bank within risk tolerance and other investment parameters established by senior management. Results will be measured directly against established internal and external benchmarks, including contribution to Bank’s profitability and other financial goals.

Assume full responsibility in trade execution and implementation of portfolio positioning.

Oversee Junior Portfolio Managers and Assistant Portfolio Managers.

Ensure that all legal, regulatory, accounting and audit concerns are properly addressed.

 

Other pertinent projects as directed by the Chief Investment Officer or Treasurer.

Responsible for adhering to and ensuring business unit complies with pertinent laws, regulations,
Our client’s Compliance Policy as well as external compliance requirements.

Education/Experience/Licenses etc.:

 

Strong academic credentials to include Bachelor’s degree in finance. An MBA and/or CFA preferred.

10+ years of experience in structured fixed-income investment, portfolio management, and credit analysis are essential. Focus on CLO and ABS asset classes highly desired.

Expert knowledge in wide range of asset classes and financial instruments.

Demonstrated ability to analyze, assess and question portfolio dynamics, from investment strategies to individual investment ideas/holdings, and develop fact-based conclusions and recommendations.

Exhibited credit analytical skills with ability to detect issues before they happen.

Strong understanding of portfolio construction, interest rate and options models, credit pricing, quantitative strategies, volatility and market technical’s, as well as relative value dynamics among asset classes.
