Director of Finance and Operations
Sands Capital Ventures currently manages a portfolio of investments in privately-held life science and technology businesses, and is preparing to raise its first blind-pool fund. Sands Capital Ventures is an affiliate of Sands Capital Management, an investment firm founded in 1992 that manages over $30 billion in long only, concentrated portfolios selected through a rigorous fundamental research process that aims to identify high-quality growth businesses.
POSITION SUMMARY / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Sands Capital Ventures is seeking an experienced finance and operations professional to support its Private Growth Strategy. This person will function as an integral member of the Sands Capital Ventures team and will be responsible for directing the internal financial, operational and administrative activities of Sands Capital Ventures. These responsibilities must be conducted in accordance with industry best practices and applicable laws and regulations. Specifically, this person will be responsible for:
• Maintenance of financial books and records
• Production of audited financial statements and K1s
• Fund and investment valuations
• Investor reporting
• Managing capital calls and distributions
• Assistance with fundraising and fund formation
• Assistance with regulatory compliance, including with the Investment Adviser Act
• Assistance with the budgeting process
• Managing all infrastructure and internal and external resources required to support operations, including the build-out of fund management technologies
• Coordinating and managing outsourced service providers (e.g., attorneys, accountants, auditors, banks and custodians)
• Assistance with financial due diligence
NECESSARY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• B.A./B.S. in business management, finance, operations, or other related field; MBA and/or CPA preferred.
• 4-8 years of progressive experience in a senior operational/administrative role within the venture capital/private equity space and/or related areas.
• Knowledge of, and familiarity with, valuation processes and methodologies, partnership accounting and private fund administration.
• Ability to work under pressure to execute, manage, multi-task, prioritize and maintain multiple projects, tasks and activities with varying levels of importance.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic and business planning.
• Extensive project management experience.
• Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Outstanding leadership and communication skills.
