Avenue Community Development Corporation seeks qualified candidates for the position of Director of Fund Development and Communications.  Avenue CDC is an award-winning non-profit organization dedicated to improving our Houston community by developing affordable housing and economic opportunities.  Avenue CDC has been in existence for 20 years and offers competitive compensation plans and benefits programs.

 

 

Position Responsibilities

 

Fund Development

This position plays a critical role in the securing of resources for affordable housing, community revitalization, and economic development initiatives.  Duties include but are not limited to:

•       Develop proposal strategies in conjunction with executive director.

·         Prepare and/or oversee preparation of proposals and reports for foundation, corporate, and public funders.

•       Research corporate, foundation, individual donor, and public sector prospects.

•       Support Executive Director in managing the stewardship of funding relationships.

•       Maintain donor contact information as well as track grant and report deadlines and requirements.

•       Work closely with Executive Director, program staff and Board members on communication projects, mailings, and donor-related activities.

•       Manage donor acknowledgement process, including writing acknowledgement letters.

•       Perform necessary program data management and research for proposal and reporting purposes.

 

Communications and Special Events

The Director will play a critical role in enhancing Avenue CDC’s public presence,

outreach and communications efforts as critical elements to the organization’s programmatic success.

•       Assist with implementation of overall communications strategy

•       Oversee design and production of communications materials such as e-newsletter, website, brochure, press releases, including writing necessary content and making website updates.

•       Oversee maintenance of contact lists for various communications efforts, mailings and special events.

•       Coordinate and prepare presentations, briefs and progress reports for new and current funders, stakeholders and major partners.

•       Coordinate and plan special events, tours and other external activities

•       Establish media relationships and seek media opportunities.

•       Assist in coordinating media relations through press releases and serve as press contact with major media outlets.

 

Qualifications and Characteristics

 

Required

•       Excellent writing, communications, and organizational skills.

•       A Bachelors degree and 5 years of related experience in fund development with nonprofits.

•       Conscientious and very detailed-oriented.

•       Demonstrated ability to prepare print and electronic materials of high quality (content and format).

•       Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, graphic design/publishing software, and Web research techniques.

•       Ability to work independently on multiple tasks as well as manage long- and short-term assignments simultaneously.

•       Ability to work collaboratively with staff to develop grant proposals, to prepare reports, and to track information needed for programmatic outcomes purposes.

•       Experience developing and maintaining database marketing/mailing lists.

•       Flexibility and poise in dealing with a diverse range of individuals and organizations, including foundations, public agencies, corporate leaders, community development organizations and neighborhood residents.

•       Must have a good sense of humor, ability to work in a dynamic environment, enthusiasm and an outcomes focus.

•       Reliable transportation for meetings in the Houston area.

 

Strongly recommended

• Experience in media relations including experience with print and broadcast placement.

• Familiarity with the field of community development.

 

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience.
