Director of Global Import Export / 12-1501

Position Description:

DJO is a global provider of medical devices that provide solutions for musculoskeletal health, vascular health and pain management. We are currently seeking a Director of Global Import Export at our Corporate Headquarters in Vista, CA.

Summary:

As a critical member of DJO’s Supply Chain team, this role leads all import export efforts globally to ensure DJO complies with all relevant local, country and international trade law. This role will provide strategic consultation and guidance to senior management on all decisions that have an impact on Import/Export operations. Additionally, this role will be responsible for defining all import / export compliance corporate policies, processes, procedures and training. To succeed in this position, you must be able to collaborate effectively with other DJO groups and freight forwarders.

Responsibilities:

• Enhance and maintain an effective Import/Export Compliance Program including documenting policies and procedures
• Manage the movement of products/equipment/materials in and/or out of the country in accordance with organizational policy and procedure, and compliance with relevant local, country and international law and process
• Lead the review, redesign, execution and maintenance of the export compliance process including technology requirements.
• Develop, implement and maintain processes to manage the compliant use of trade preference programs. Develop, implement and maintain processes to ensure accurate and timely export licensing classification of products is completed, and licenses are obtained when needed
• Maintain product HTS tariff classifications, Schedule-B classification, ECCN's and monitor updates and changes applicable to these schedule
• Develop, implement and maintain procedures to ensure compliance with Other Government Agency requirements (e.g., US FDA, US FCC)
• Interface with freight forwarders and brokers
• Interface with regulatory authorities
• Provide orientation and training to employees and train export personnel at other divisions within the organization
• Keep current on regulatory changes
• Make final determinations regarding questionable transactions/compliance concerns
• Maintain appropriate recordkeeping and due diligence in accordance with all governing regulatory requirements. Demonstrate corporate importer of record reasonable care and best practices.
• Establish, enforce and monitor country of origin markings

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• 12 years experience in Import/Export or customs
• Licensed customs broker strongly preferred
• Bilingual (English / Spanish) is preferred
• Advanced knowledge of and experience with Import/Export software packages
• Oracle knowledge is preferred
• Experience leading / managing direct and indirect reports
• Ability to work across different levels and divisions within the company to execute improvements
• Experience managing trade compliance in multiple countries is a plus
• Experience working with maquiladora/IMMEX is preferred
• Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred
