Director of Manufacturing Engineering – San Jose, CA

 

Summary:


We have a unique opportunity for a Director of Manufacturing Engineering reporting to the Vice President of Operations.  As the Director of Manufacturing Engineering, you will manage manufacturing engineering operations located at our San Jose headquarters in the heart of Silicon Valley.  You will lead the prime technical arm of operations working closely with engineering and marketing on the development of new products.  You will lead the new product introduction (NPI) efforts for operations and will be instrumental in transferring product and process technology to our supply chain partners.  The Director of Manufacturing Engineering must assess the process capability of key component suppliers and CM’s and transfer any new technology to them in a timely, cost-effective manner so that they are never a gate to revenue.  The scope of the position includes process engineering, advanced manufacturing engineering, test (PCB and Final Assembly), component engineering, tuning and test software processes, and CM technical support.  In addition, the Director of Manufacturing Engineering will employ lean manufacturing techniques to our supply chain partners, provide support to CTO for new technology development, and be an active participant on the Operations Staff. 

 

Responsibilities:


·         New Product Introduction process and execution and support for sustained product production. 

·         Capacity planning throughout the supply chain

·         Process technology strategy and transfer throughout the supply chain.

·         Ability to execute and deliver against tight time schedules.

·         Lead cost reduction, yield improvement, and cycle time reductions for current products.

·         Capital budgeting and management (facilities, equipment and tooling)

·         Database information management (metrics, problem resolution, etc.)

·         Team leadership and mentoring with demonstrated ability to motivate and lead technical resources.

·         Responsible for coordinating activities between engineering, operations, and service to ensure design for manufacturing (DFM), design for test (DFT), and design for service (DFS).

 

Qualifications:


·         Bachelor or Master’s Degree – IE, ME, or EE

·         10+ years manufacturing/engineering experience with production of optical products.

·         10+ years management experience in a high volume electronics manufacturing environment.

·         Experience working with contract manufacturers in China and/or Japan

·         Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities with attention to detail

·         Successful track record of new product introductions in remote locations.

·         Ability to execute and deliver against tight time schedules.

·         Experienced in the critical review of mechanical and optical drawings and CAD files.

·         Ability and desire to travel internationally 25%+ of the time.

·         Strong team player with ability to collaborate across functional areas such as engineering, marketing, and manufacturing organizations inside and outside the company.
