Director of Marketing Job in Washington, District Of Columbia US

This is highly responsible professional, administrative, and senior-level managerial marketing work. Director is responsible for directing and managing all personnel, resources, and activities in the Office of Marketing involved in planning, development, establishment, coordination, and monitoring of an effective marketing, revenue-generating and communications program. Director ensures that the Office establishes and meets objectives that enhance the Authoritys ability to attract and retain customers and increase revenue, and to maintain a positive corporate image. Director supervises the development of programs to enhance revenue and ridership; advertising campaigns and market research efforts while assuring their quality and timeliness; and also supervises Authoritys Art and Design in Transit Program. Director manages and implements Authoritys branding strategy and ensures that Authority programs/projects support branding efforts. Director also manages the production of Authority public information publications; design, production and execution of videographic and audio-visual materials; generation of non-farebox revenue; and guidelines governing commercial activities on Authority property.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Plans, develops, implements, evaluates and manages the Authoritys marketing, creative services, replication and duplication services, advertising/promotions, market research functions and art and design in transit.

Plans and administers a comprehensive marketing program and advises the Assistant General Manager on marketing activities and the acceptability of Authority programs and services to potential and current customers.

Develops, implements and maintains a branding strategy for the Authoritys services. Ensures that Authority projects/programs support the branding strategy.

Coordinates marketing-related objectives with other offices in the Authority, local organizations and other transit organizations.

Develops advertising objectives and directs advertising and marketing programs of the Authority, including measurement of program effectiveness.

Directs the promotion and coordination of transit benefits programs such as Metrochek and SmartBenefits.

Directs the sale of advertising space within and on Authority assets.

Develops strategy for increasing non-farebox revenue through existing and new revenue initiatives.

Directs the Authoritys merchandising efforts.

Directs design and production of external information materials, including corporate brochures, timetables, signage, newsletters, presentations, videos and related multi-media or audio-visual materials, and provides production services to other departments as required.

Directs the activities of the Authoritys Art and Design in Transit program.

Supervises the work of marketing consultants and marketing suppliers of the Authority.

Participates in decisions affecting the quality and appeal of the Authoritys transit services.

Provides critical information in the formulation of Authority budgets, proposing and analyzing options, examining tradeoffs, and assessing the budgetary implications of alternative courses of action as they affect the marketing program.

Develops operating and capital budgets to enhance marketing efforts.

Plans for the professional development of employees to ensure that their skills remain competitive.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing, market development, market research, branding, economic trend development and impact assessment, publication and audio-visual production services and advertising.

Ability to acquire and maintain a current knowledge of the marketing and communications programs used effectively by other transit organizations as well as other service companies. Ability to analyze and implement those programs that would enhance the Authoritys ability to increase ridership and generate revenue.

Knowledge of or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the functions, programs and activities of the Authority and its policies and procedures.

Knowledge of or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the federal, state and local public transportation policy arenas, the National Capital Region and the transit industry.

Demonstrated executive or senior management level writing and presentation skills.

Ability to balance multiple projects and to achieve objectives on tight deadlines in a very fast-paced, results-oriented environment.

Ability to direct, train, and evaluate subordinate staff in compliance with applicable Authority personnel and labor relations policies, procedures, regulations and agreements.

Ability to manage effectively within tight budgetary and human resource limitations and sensitivity to the unique requirements of public service.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Qualification Requirements

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Public or Business Administration, or a related field. A minimum of ten (10) years of senior-level marketing management, brand management experience in a large, public organization with demonstrated ability to direct a large and complex marketing program.

Or, an equivalent combination of education and more than twelve (12) years of
senior-level marketing management, brand management or related experience in a large, public organization with demonstrated ability to direct a large and complex marketing program.

Experience working in a large-scale public or private sector transportation and/or transit organization may be considered in lieu of education if the candidate can effectively demonstrate functional/technical competence and progressive responsibility.
