Director of Member Engagement

 

Overview: This Minnesota Trucking Association (MTA) position is equal parts membership field-organizing (grassroots), sales (recruiting and retention), and operational support (technical and programmatic). As field organizer, the position generates active participation among MTA members in advocacy efforts and public outreach programs, including political action committee activities.  As salesperson, the position spends time in the field and on the phone actively soliciting membership in the organization and participation in its programs/services. As operational support, this position responds to member inquiries and assists in delivery of MTA general programming. This position reports to the President.

 

Field Organizer

·         Develop and maintain a grassroots lobbying network among members

·         Create and maintain a current member/legislator database

·         Coordinate in-district visits with policy makers and members

·         Call MTA members and leaders to action as needed

·         Maintain active roster of members willing to contact local media to deliver organizational messaging

·         Oversee annual Truck to the Capitol Event

·         Maintain working knowledge of key legislative and regulatory issues facing the membership

·         Support contract lobbying team with development of materials and information

 

Political Action Committee

·         Support President in day-to-day operations of the PAC

·         Implement fundraising initiatives

·         Create and distribute periodic donor updates

·         Complete required Campaign Finance Board lobbyist reports

 

Sales

·         Develop and manage a program for recruiting new members into the organization

·         Actively sell MTA membership, products, services and educational opportunities.

·         Track and report all sales activity

 

Retention

·         Develop and manage a program for retaining members

·         Conduct periodic member group meetings across the state

·         Conduct regular face-to-face visits at member facilities to determine needs and concerns

·         Contact each member at least once per year

 

Operational Support

·         Respond to member inquiries for information and assistance, including regulatory compliance support

·         Assist in delivery of general MTA programming, including staffing MTA functions

·         Represent the organization at events as designated by the President

·         Assist president and other staff as assigned

Experience

 

·         Bachelors Degree, and

·         Three to five years experience in a safety, operations, customer service or sales capacity in the trucking industry, or

·         Proven record as a campaign or grassroots organizer
