Director of Mobile Workforce Development Job in Basking Ridge, New Jersey US
Position Responsibilities
Candidate must provide direction and leadership in evaluation, design, development and implementation of leading edge IT solutions for Verizon IM and SDA Technician workforce using next generation mobile technologies. The candidate will be expected to lead a highly qualified team of engineers, act as the IT focal point and partner with client organizations in delivery of IT solutions. Drive continuous system improvements for Field Technicians (over 30K Techs across 5 business units), keep current with mobile and telecom technology trends and take rational risks in implementing those trends for ROI. In addition the candidate needs to be very well versed in real world issues of system deployment and supportable systems development. This position involves managing a development budget in the $5-10M range with responsibility of delivering three of the corporate strategic programs to Be More Profitable including Field Technician Efficiencies, Next Generation in Home Architecture and Operations/Tech Productivity which will result in an in-year benefit plan (cost savings) of $28M.
Responsibility
1- Partner with the LOB and Lead the delivery of state-of-the-art IT solutions for Verizon mobile workforce. Over 30K IM and SDA Techs across 5 LOBs.
- Leads a team to design systems and architecture solutions across multiple platforms and business processes.
- Stay current with changing technology trends and take rational risks in implementing those trends and drive change by infusing new technology trends that improves technician productivity and efficiency.
- Leadership in implementation, go-to-market and make the solution operational ensuring high adoption.
- Leads issue identification, scope definition, evaluation and root cause analysis
2- Manage Employees and Budget.
- Manage and lead a global development and operations team to deliver strategic projects and modernization efforts working with client and other IT teams to deliver these critical, intuitive solutions successfully for the target users and drive Verizon automation.
- Organize and manage teams to deliver and execute mobility related projects/WRs.
- Take ownership of the work done by the team and take responsibility for the outcomes from other organizations that would have an indirect, matrix mapping relationship.
- Performs timely reviews of the employees and track performance to the agreements with timely feedback to the employees, create an environment for success by regularly meeting the teams and reviewing the projects and deliverables.
- Manages the budget of the organization with weekly reviews of the time sheets, capital and expense reports.
- Builds a process for employee motivation, performance and growth. Identifies, mentors and develops high potential employees with a clear succession plan.
- Lives and implements the credo.
- Interact directly with senior management in IT and the LOB, technical operations staff including overseas resources, architecture planning teams, and key business stakeholders. Participate with senior leadership to establish strategic plans and objectives for the IT and LOB teams and must ensure effective achievement of all objectives.
- Stay current with industry and market trends, the latest technologies and their implications for Verizon, and to possess the ability to create and deliver capabilities that will materially affect our overall IT strategy. This position requires the ability to weave incremental improvements into significant advancements.
Responsibilities include projecting into the future to determine how multiple strategies will impact the organization if implemented and transforming existing strategies into short-term successes. Understand systems and architectural complexities and the development of sound solutions to pressing business problems. Effectively perform daily tasks relationships must be forged across IT organizations, LOB partners, and peers with direct and indirect authority. Excellent interpersonal skills as well as experience in delivering technical solutions on large scale initiatives.
Work Complexity
The position involves the ability to think creatively and act independently, quickly troubleshoot potential obstacles with very limited senior management oversight, to provide detailed technical end to end direction regarding architecture of both hardware and software, coding standards, reviews and to design and develop a standardized development platform. The work will be highly intensive and complex requiring the management of multiple large scale projects simultaneously for major releases under tight deadlines. The position will also require the development and delivery of presentations for Verizon Telecom Executives on deliverables, progress.
Required Skills Experience
Knowledge Skills
This position requires an understanding of IT systems and technologies, acumen to solve complex problems, the ability to project and program manage a variety of groups spanning multiple CIO groups without direct authority over them, a sound understanding of the business, and the ability to leverage business relationships.
- 10-15 years of overall IT experience in a leadership role, spearheading design, development and implementation of large scale mission critical applications.
- 10+ years experience in delivering mission critical Verizon IT applications for the business, across OSS, Provisioning, Fulfillment and Mobility portfolios.
- 4+ years of hands-on knowledge of Mobility Platforms – HTML5, JQuery, RIM/Blackberry, Android – HC/ICS, BES etc.
- 8+ years experience in Java/J2EE,c++, c#, .NET skills.
- In-depth knowledge of DB2/Oracle/SQLServer.
- In-depth knowledge of web/app servers – HIS/Websphere/Weblogic etc.
- In-depth knowledge of Operating Systems – AIX, UNIX, LINUX etc.
- In-depth and hands-on knowledge of Verizon Mobility platforms, vMobile,vMLite, DCWeb, Tech360, TER, vMobile/Gateway Services etc.
- Experience and solid understanding of the broad business goals and direction, delivering solutions to complex business problems.
- Quickly able to organize around a problem and engage various teams to solve the challenge.
- Strong management skills with experience managing employees remotely.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including strong knowledge of MS Office applications.
- Proven ability to interact with all levels of management.
- Demonstrated project management expertise.
- Strong understanding of Enterprise class Mobile platform architecture, design and development and Mobile Device Management.
- Current with industry trends and ability to align the mobility development platform to the changing trends.
- Understanding of various commercially available devices - capabilities and limitations.
- Bachelor's degree in related field and/or equivalent work experience (First consideration will be given to those candidates who hold a degree).

- Masters or foreign equivalent in Computer/Electronics/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
