THE ROLE - Director of Nursing - Reporting to Executive Director - This role will provide positive leadership and effective management, to ensure highly professional and cost efficient nursing services throughout the hospital. You will maintain a well motivated and highly trained nursing team and continue the development of nursing services.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure the implementation of quality nursing care, through regular review of policies and continuing monitoring of clinical practice in line with the Care Standards and BMI Operational Standards.
• Maintain constant control on all aspects of patient care offering advice and support across all areas of patient activity.
• Provide support and advice to Senior staff on hospital procedures and the management of their areas.
• Ensure the provision of effective recruitment programmes to maintain a high calibre of staff throughout the hospital and remain in line with departmental budgets.
• Review regularly manpower planning to ensure that patient occupancy trends are anticipated and staff levels adjusted accordingly working with the nursing standard for labour as agreed with the Regional Director.
• Ensure regular review of practices and levels of service provided by departments to consultant users..
• Ensure the maintenance of accurate patient and staff records, observing legal requirements and Codes of Good Practice.
• Monitor financial information on a weekly and monthly basis from departmental reports, identifying trends and taking remedial or preventative action as necessary.
• In conjunction with the Commercial Finance Manager, to prepare annual departmental budgets and to supervise and train senior nurses in budget planning.
• Liaise closely with Commercial Finance Manager in order to achieve the required financial control and maximise revenue capture.
• Provide the Executive Director with departmental goals and objectives on an annual basis and monitor their achievement throughout the year.
• Participate in the design and implementation of new projects.
• To participate in the marketing and PR role for the hospital through attendance at functions and conferences.
• Act as consultant to staff and provide advice and assistance with problems.
• Attend Regional meetings with the Directors of Nursing
• Act up for the Executive Director as required.

PERSON SPEC - higher weighting more important

• 10 - Proven track record in a senior Nursing role - preferably gained within an acute hospital setting
• 10 - Degree in Nursing - valid UK PIN number. Post graduate/Managerial qualification would also be
• 10 - Excellent generalist Nursing experience - working across a variety of different settings
• 10 - Can demonstrate measurable commercial successes in current/previous roles - occupancy levels and referrals
• 10 - Excellent communication and networking skills - pro-active, responsive, over-deliver - and a role model for team
• 10 - Familiarity of working with budgets/business planning
