Wesley Enhanced Living (WEL) is a robust industry leader in services to the aging. WEL owns and operates a number of continuing care retirement communities in eastern Pennsylvania. We are searching for a Director of Nursing (DON) to enhance our team.
Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing is responsible to make a compelling difference in the lives of our residents through providing excellence and innovation in aging services. The Director of Nursing is responsible for strategic leadership, program development and implementation, and overall administration of Nursing Services in accordance with community and resident needs, government regulations, projected industry changes, and WEL policies and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assumes responsibility for the development of nursing service objectives, performance standards of nursing practice for each category of nursing personnel, and nursing policies and procedures
- Assumes accountability for the development, organization and implementation of approved policies and procedures and systematic approaches to providing care and services
- Directs, evaluates and supervises all resident care and initiates corrective action as necessary
- Directs and/or assesses resident care needs and assists in the development of individualized plans of care
- Evaluates resident care as related to individualized resident needs, family involvement and the physician’s plan of care for the resident
- Directs staff and/or assesses resident responses to medication and treatment, and make appropriate recommendations for nursing action to be implemented
- Reports concerns/problems to the Director of Long Term Care, conducts daily resident rounds and initiate corrective action as necessary
- Conducts ongoing monitoring of incidents/accidents, identifies trends, implements corrective action or systems changes necessary
- Monitors Infection Control practices, identifies trends, implements corrective action or systems changes necessary
- Identifies safety hazards and initiate corrective action
- Comprehends, adheres to, directs and monitors implementation and compliance with Resident Rights; identifies potential or actual violations and implements corrective action
- Identifies the need/topics of nursing service educational programs including, but not limited to, orientation and on-going in-service for licensed and unlicensed nursing personnel; works in conjunction with Staff Development department and contractors
- Conducts staff meetings with all shifts for purposes of planning, coordinating and implementing nursing service policies and procedures
- Assumes responsibility for nursing service compliance to federal, state and local regulations
- Participates in the planning and implementation of the nursing budget; approves purchases
- Operates nursing services within the budget guidelines established
- Directs allocation of nursing service equipment and supplies within the facility and establishes guidelines for efficient, economical utilization of supplies and equipment
- Ensures availability of equipment for nursing personnel
- Assesses equipment and supply needs; makes recommendations to the Director of Long Term Care
- Directs and supervises scheduling of employees within established guidelines for allocation of nursing service personnel on duty and within budget parameters
- Recommends the number and level of personnel to be employed to the Director of Long Term Care
- Interviews and hires nursing service employees in accordance with established HR policies and procedures; conducts counseling interviews and initiates disciplinary action as necessary, including termination
- Prepares written employee performance evaluations and initiates recommendations for salary increases and promotions
- Supervises the performance of Medicare, Medicaid and regulatory required assessments and related documentation; works in conjunction with the Director of Clinical Reimbursement
- Determines level of care, consistent, based on physicians recommendations and plan of care
- Prepares various management reports, CQI reports and/or special assignments and adheres to established time schedules
- Establishes open lines of communication with consultants and consistently take follow up action on recommendations
- Communicates daily with nursing personnel providing clear, concise information; provides specific assignments of projects
- Performs duties and responsibilities, requiring detailed attention, in a proficient manner
