Position SummaryThe Operations Director reports to the CEO.   Oversees all operations activities of exciting venture-backed start-up firm in food manufacturing space with leading-edge intellectual property, including manufacturing, logistics distribution, procurement/ inventory management, customer fulfillment, and technical services.  Accountable for managing production staff and leading to identify, manage, and execute the plant’s process improvement opportunities.  Ensures production resources including materials, equipment and human resources are available as needed to maintain production schedules.  Further responsible for meeting quality, customer service, safety, innovation and cost metrics consistent with schedules and policies.

 

Expected to develop, implement, and oversee an operational strategy that properly aligns with the high growth strategic plan of the company.  The results of a thorough manufacturing strategic analysis (ie means of phasing out current production facility, identification of co-manufacturers, consideration of a green-field operation, geographic insight, etc.) are expected to be fully implemented by Q2 2012.

 

Duties Responsibilities:

Lead all operations functions of the business in support of rapid expansion plan


Ensure a safe working environment for all production staff

Work closely with executive management

Manage day to day production operations of the plan

Develop and review production plans and efficiency metrics (labor, materials, engineering, customer             fulfillment)

Immediately design short, medium and long-term production strategy for the company to achieve broader   strategic initiatives

Create all budgets and cost estimates for firm’s Operations departments, and regularly provide executive     management performance reports

Responsible for inventory control (purchasing, receiving) and inventory planning. 

Expected to lead the design and eventual implementation of information technology requirements to achieve best practices in warehouse management


Identify human capital needed and subsequent hiring plan for all operational sectors of the company –         purchasing, logistics, etc.

Assist in product research development efforts of company and resulting operational needs

Oversee the maintenance of food production records

Plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of production employees in order to prepare and deliver finished food products

Monitor and coordinate maintenance schedules

Participate in labor/management relations

Prepare and administer evaluations for employees

Qualifications:

College degree in food science technology, engineering or relevant university degree and an additional preference to graduate degree holders (ie MBA)

Minimum 6 years experience in a manufacturing environment, with strong preference toward food production

Interdisciplinary background in operations, including logistics and distribution, purchasing, manufacturing, inventory management, and technical expertise

Minimum 3 years supervisory experience as Director of Operations or equivalent at a well-regarded manufacturing firm with minimum production value of $20 million

Direct and relevant experience in a start-up environment

Proven track-record of attracting, recruiting and training personnel for various functional areas of company operations

Leadership skills, focused on results, employees engagement, decision making, team work, change management

Excellent problem solving skills

Strong PC skills includes MS office programs

Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving and organizational skills

Ability to multi-task and set priorities within the department
