Director of Payroll / UTEK1087

Position Description:

UniTek Global Services is seeking a Director of Payroll to join our Corporate Headquarters in Blue Bell, PA. The Director of Payroll will be responsible for directing the activities of the payroll team in the United States and Canada to develop and control all tasks necessary to accomplish the Company’s payroll processing objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Develops and controls all tasks necessary to accomplish the payroll processing objectives, including relationships with human resources, accounting, operations, legal, internal/external auditors, and state and federal agencies
• Oversee the timely and accurate processing of payroll, earnings and deductions, including the management of garnishments
• Procures payroll/human resource information system
• Implement Human Resource information processes that maintain the integrity and security of employee data
• Responsible for all payroll tax activities, including multi-state registrations and tax set up, compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and ensuring timely filings of each jurisdiction’s periodic returns through third party vendor
• Responsible for remaining current on new legislation and regulatory ruling impacting payroll
• Design, maintain and document effective internal controls for the payroll functions
• Responsible for payroll SOX and internal/external audit compliance
• Resolve issues by providing root cause analysis and corrective action for all non-routine situations
• Collaborate with IT resources to prioritize and resolve both proactive and reactive IT support for all components of our payroll systems, as well as multiple inbound and outbound interfaces
• Analyze compensation policies, government regulations, and prevailing wage rates to develop competitive compensation plan
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10-15 years in the payroll field with minimal five years in a leadership position
• Existing knowledge of Canadian payroll laws
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
• Working knowledge of HRIS and Report Writing systems; ADP system experience preferred
• Strong interest in learning and developing a payroll department to an exceptional level
• Experience processing multi-state payroll with 3500+ employees for exempt and non-exempt employees
• Deep knowledge of end-to-end payroll systems and processes
• Proven track record of being able to balance the strategic with the tactical: must understand how the payroll strategy impacts the business, and be able to articulate and implement a strategic vision for payroll
• Solid project management experience including track records in implementing transformational payroll initiatives
• Demonstrated ability and proven track record in driving payroll process and efficiency improvements
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with focus on quality and integrity
• Must be effective in communicating at all organizational levels, including the C level.
• Enthusiasm for change, flexible and adaptable to a dynamic environment
• Flexible with occasional travel (approximately 25%)

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
