Director of Policy Influence and Advocacy Integration, Public Affairs Job in Mississauga, Ontario Canada

(Full Time, Temporary 8 Month Opportunity)

 

DESCRIPTION

 

Located in either Ottawa or Toronto, the Director is a member of a dynamic team of policy and advocacy professionals, and reports to the Vice President, Public Affairs.

 

The overall objectives of the Director, Policy Influence and Advocacy Integration are to:

Provide oversight and professional development direction to the Policy and Program Integration team.

Lead the team to maximize opportunities to influence Canadian policy as it relates to peace-building and humanitarian affairs, food security, child protection and child health by providing guidance on: field based research; emerging policy opportunities; political dynamics; and the development of targeted, well written and researched policy products.

Provide leadership to the integration of advocacy into World Vision’s field programming  

Build strong integration between the policy work and the public relations, government relations and advocacy campaigns functions for the Public Affairs Department.

 

The Director may also supervise consultants, researcher or interns.

 

Key Job Functions

 

The Director will work closely with other members of the Public Affairs Team, including Public Engagement, Public Relations and the Ottawa Bureau to maximize opportunities for public engagement and resource acquisition on peace-building and humanitarian affairs, food security, child health and child protection.  The Director will provide strong leadership in both ensuring the quality of policy produced but also managing overall workload and professional development for all members of the team. Finally, the Director will engage with senior levels of the International and Canadian Programs team to develop opportunities for the integration of advocacy into World Vision’s development programming.  This work will be done in alignment with the Resource Acquisition mandate of the Ottawa Bureau.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

The qualified candidate will have a minimum of five years work experience, preferably in a related field such as policy, advocacy, international development, with at least 2 to 3 years management experience.  Strong research, analytical, writing and oral communication skills and a willingness to travel internationally are essential.  The qualified candidate is also seasoned in building strategic relationships and is able to find the win-win when collaborating with others.

 

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in a related field (International Development, Political Science or Public Administration) and the ability to consider international development issues from a child rights and faith-based perspective. Bilingualism in French is an asset.
