Director of Safety, Security & Environmental Compliance Job in Wilmington 90744, California US
Position Summary: To lead and oversee a high-performing safety program in coordination with Operations, Risk Management and Insurance. To ensure compliance with federal, state and local safety rules and regulations. To assist with interpretations of environmental protection regulations. To oversee training for accident prevention for Company staff and its divisions. To interface with various agencies with oversight of workplace safety. To establish and continuously improve a corporate culture of safety through leadership, training, and example. To oversee security compliance and the implementation of Facility Security Plans in each marine terminal managed by the Company.
Experience and Aptitude:
· Work closely with Senior Management, Operations Leaders, Safety Group Leaders, Risk Management, Insurance, Terminal Managers, Superintendents, and others to identify potential and existing hazards, design, propose and implement resolutions to same.
· Routinely visit Company locations throughout the United States to conduct, record and report on safety inspections and survey occupational conditions of vessel operations, terminal operations, and equipment and mechanical/gear operations.
· Ensure Company meets AQMD and CARB requirements in California and related federal, state and local regulations in other operating states including, but not limited to SPCC, Hazardous Waste Management Permits and commodity dust control requirements throughout all company sites.
· Conduct corporate office safety meetings.
· Ensure Company IIPP plan is current.
· Conduct and/or oversee accident investigations.
· Develop and maintain short and long term safety plans.
· Maintain and report on Contract Documents booklets issued by ILWU on safety.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
· 4-year college degree in applicable field of study/ Master’s Degree desirable. Minimum 5 years experience in a safety managerial capacity/ 10 years desirable.
· In-depth knowledge of state and federal OSHA, US Coast guard regulations, PCMSC, and other safety regulatory requirements for the maritime industry.
· Advanced computer skills in all Microsoft office products, including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
· Valid driver’s license, with an appropriate driving record.
· Able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
· Able to travel extensively.
· Work occasional weekends and holidays as needed. Carry Company cell-phone for 24-hour “on-call” duties.
