Posted Position Title: Director of Software Engineering Career Level: Experienced Function Engineering/Technology Function Segment: Applications and Software Location: United States U.S. State, China or Canada Provinces: Georgia City: Atlanta Postal Code: 30339-8402 Relocation Assistance No Role Summary/Purpose: The Director of Software Engineering, SSG Digital Energy Emerging Technologies will be responsible for leading a team of lean / agile software engineers and software release managers that will support the Digital Energy PL by developing new software applications to drive revenue growth for the business. This position will report to the Software Solution Group Digital Energy Leader. Essential Responsibilities - Lead a diverse group of lean/agile software engineers - Manage and develop Software Release Managers within the organization - Work with Product Line Leaders (PLLs) / Product Managers to understand product requirements vision; translate that vision into a prioritized list of user stories and deliver software incorporating those stories to required timelines and quality standards - Drive world-class quality in the software development of products through Agile and Continuous Integration methodology - Work with Product Line Leaders and architects to develop multi generation software technology plans - Work directly with internal and external customers to understand business and technical needs - Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse - Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining support activities - Coach, mentor and lead the global team - Work cross functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables - Own team organization and staffing - Deliver resource strategy and plans, including use of 3rd parties/partners, etc., in support of development and support activities - Plan and manage budgets related to scope of team - Communicate effectively both within immediate team and also across SSG leadership and with PLLs - Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results Qualifications/Requirements: - Bachelor of Science in Computer Science - Minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering management role - Minimum of 5 years of direct experience leading agile software development teams - Minimum of 1 year of experience leading teams in releasing commercial software utilizing advanced agile techniques - Minimum of 5 years of experience leading global teams ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: - Green Belt Certification (for GE Employees only) Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Desired Characteristics - Master's Degree /PHD in Computer Science - Bachelor's degree in mathematics or system engineering - Additional leadership experience in areas of operations, manufacturing and quality is preferred - Black Belt certification is preferred (for GE employees) - Experience in Windows based .Net software development environments - Previous experience of developing code and working on an agile /extreme programing team - Strong interpersonal and leadership skills - Effective team building and problem solving abilities - Strong oral and written communication skills, including executive level presentation skills - Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers Why join one great company when you can join many?
