DIRECTOR OF TAXATION AND COMPLIANCE Job in Brattleboro, Vermont Us

in Brattleboro, VT is looking for a dynamic individual to join our mission-driven,
organization. We seek a Director of Taxation and Compliance to support the Finance
Department in a culture that fosters wellness and social responsibility.
Position purpose:
Directs and oversees the organization's tax policies and objectives. Monitors reporting and planning to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes. Prepares and ensures accuracy of tax returns and works to minimize the organization's tax obligations. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Income Taxes:
- Input preparation and final review of US and Canadian federal returns
- Preparation 5471 filings
- Input preparation and final review of domestic multistate and Canadian multi-province filings.
- Preparation of multiple domestic local jurisdiction income tax filings.
- Filing of non profit postcard returns or detail returns for various small entities.
- Responsibility for audits
Compliance Portfolio:
- Business and occupational taxes
- City and county registrations and occupational employment taxes filed for a variety of jurisdictions.
- Annual corporate reports, franchise taxes etc.
- 3921 filings
- Property taxes
- Multistate and local employment tax research and monitoring
- Preparation and review monthly multistate payroll inputs, compliance and registration
- Oversight and research for Sales and Use tax Department
- 5500 filings
- Research and action new requirements (i.e. FIN 48, new jurisdictions, domestic and foreign)
- Maintain permanent accounting/tax records
Research Development
- Prepare summary expenses for tax returns
Experience and Qualifications:
- CPA or MBA preferred
- At least 5 years experience in a multi-state tax / compliance environment
- Excellent research capabilities
- Strong Excel skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work independently on complex tax and accounting issues with reasonable knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, regulations and state tax law
- Professional written and oral communication skills with an ability to work effectively with all types and levels of company personnel
- Strong problem solving skills and ability to facilitate a decision making process
