Director, Product Management

Job Description
This position has overall responsibility for creating and managing all aspects of the development of the eTrading products and services within the Platts Petroleum, Power and Metals and Agricultural sectors. It must identify and incorporate the groups strengths and capabilities (electronic trading, global reach, exchange technology, derivative market expertise), as well as key partnerships with leading exchange and clearing house providers (InterContinentalExchange Inc. and CME) to strategically target end-user market segments, and increase Trading Services' penetration in the market and growing revenue. This position reports to the Senior Director – Global Trading Services and engages with senior and executive management within Platts.

The Director Product Management – Global Trading Services is responsible for driving the development of new trading services markets and products in all sectors. This role will be responsible for increasing eTrading revenues over the next five years. Overseeing the development of new markets and product launch plans and achieving successful global launches on-time and on-budget are key to the success of this position.

Responsibilities:

Global Commodities: Trading Services
• Drive the global vision, objectives, strategies, and business goals for Platts Trading Services. Leveraging candidate's deep understanding of the physical and derivative commodity markets, translate market needs and requirements into new lines of business for Global Trading Services.
• Work closely with the Platts Commodity Sector General Managers and their direct reports to ensure alignment of Global Trading Services plans with the Oil, Power and Metals sector plans and overall Platts strategy and priorities.
Innovation – New Market Development
• Identify, evaluate and prioritize most promising new markets and opportunities for growth in all sectors.
• Engage with key market participants (executives, traders, brokers, hedge fund managers, financial officers, Platts Editors, exchanges and clearing houses) to develop deep understanding of their markets and to identify innovative ways Platts Trading Services can bring value to those markets.
• Engage and manage external consulting organizations to assist in strategic planning and market evaluation.
• Coordinate and lead development of comprehensive financial and operational business plans to support the launch of these new services. Work closely with finance, sector leads and their direct reports, technology and sales to ensure plans consider all dimensions important to a successful launch.
• Present and explain these plans to Platts and Segment executives to garner support and build consensus on direction.
Technology and Market Trends
• Constantly monitor and stay abreast of developments in the global commodity exchange and clearing market place.
• Observe and analyze emerging trends (like Tendering, Social Media, etc.), evaluating their impact seeking opportunities for expansion for Plats in these emerging areas
Market Launches
• Coordinate with management and Human Resources to implement organizational changes required to support new launches.
• Ensure launch plan comprehensively addresses all the work streams and that all stake holders are on board and are committed to the launch.
• Lead first round of market engagement that is critical to success of new market launch.
• Manage effective hand over to operational and business teams for second phase of launch.

Qualifications
• Bachelors required, MBA or higher degree preferred.
• At least 10 – 15 years' experience as a trader, broker or analyst in a commodity hedge fund or commodity division of a major bank or financial house.
• Experience in an energy financial trading environment essential.
• Experience should be in OTC trading, derivative deal structuring, clearing and settlement
• Extensive commodity knowledge and knowledge of the business needs and external customer experience, as well as a broad knowledge of trading technology platforms and trends
• Proven success managing the design and launch of trading products or services to large community from idea generation to launch
• Proven success at developing, monitoring and managing budgets P/L
• Background in and understanding of trading and exchange technology.
• Proven ability to lead cross functional teams and collaborate to managing multiple products, driving product ideas and portfolio strategy forward.
• Strong analytical and strategic planning skills are a must. Ability to see the big picture and develop long term vision balanced with the ability to drive the organization to execute flawlessly within realistic budgets.
• Excellent business, communication, influencing and negotiating skills with the ability to apply these skills appropriately across all levels.
