Main function of the job:
Inter-systems Reconciliations is one of (currently) four GCBS Service Offerings and is the least mature versus our Operating Model. A newly confirmed GBS Executive Committee Mandate has created fresh focus on development of GCBS as centralized reconciliation performer across business lines and products and a significant gap exists between target and current state for this service offering. Inter-system reconciliations collectively are a critical control for the business and reflect a highly complex set of trades, operational processes, systems and related data flows. GBS executes not only operational processes for Deutsche Bank but also the day to day production of books and records including the firm’s financial ledgers and related records.
The Global Head for this function is responsible for developing strategic direction and working alongside the process delivery leads within GBS Service Centers to agree implementation of strategy. The role is primarily strategic in nature, driving operational efficiencies, location model, and organizational effectiveness. The incumbent of the role provides leadership within GCBS and when required across GBS for functional development of the Inter-system Reconciliations GCBS Service Offering. Additionally, the role includes partnership with the Group Technology function to agree logical and physical architecture.
Duties and responsibilities:
The role involves:
- Establishing and maintaining robust documentation of the landscape of GCBS Inter-system reconciliations and processes
- Sound understanding of the cost drivers of the function
- Leadership and partnership within GCBS and with GBS to ensure current state control and performance standards are in place and kept up to date
- Good knowledge of process design principles particularly around operational efficiency and effectiveness
- Contribution to and partnership with GBS functions to define target state for front to back control and to understand the gap to the current state
- Determine jointly with Process Delivery Managers how functional strategy impacts operations: organizational structures, people excellence processes, staff communication
- Work with Business Partner Managers to ensure a regular, two way information flows between GCBS clients and the strategic development of the service.
- Responsibility for delivery of GCBS Operating Model implementation for the Inter-systems reconciliations service
- Sounds understanding of the role of technology to drive best in class performance of the service.
Professional and personal qualifications
- Extensive understanding of operational and financial control processes within a financial services firm including investment banking
- Significant, hands on experience of front to back controls including inter-system reconciliations
- Understanding of cross geography cultural differences
- Experience of developing and executing target state
- Ability and willingness to balance control and commercial pressures in identifying and delivering business benefits
- Sound understanding across operational disciplines and how these cross relate (organization, people development, communication, client service etc)
- Proven track record in leading and influencing people outside direct line of management
- Proven track record in creating productive partnership with technology groups in a financial services context
- Ability to identify and understand delivery issues and strategic implications of same
