COMPANY OVERVIEW
Prostar Capital is an international private equity firm which focuses on investments in the infrastructure, energy and natural resource sectors. The investment team comprises a group of senior professionals with industry and technical backgrounds who have worked together for a number of years and have significant international investment experience. Prostar Capital operates in offices in New York, Singapore and Sydney. Prostar Capital has raised initial capital commitments of $300 million from a group of strategic investors to establish two global closed-end pooled funds: one focused on energy infrastructure and the other on natural resources. The investment team is currently looking at a strong pipeline of investment opportunities in the infrastructure and natural resource sectors and expects to make its first investments soon.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Business Development and Opportunity Identification – identify and screen potential investment opportunities.
- Deal origination responsibilities will include both covering marketed opportunities and generating proprietary deal flow.
- Leverage existed business relationships to broaden Prostar’s presence in the marketplace.
- Investment Selection and Execution – Implement and lead a thorough investment selection and execution process including screening, detailed due diligence, regulatory review, financial modeling, investment structuring, legal documentation, debt financing and Investment Committee approval.
- Deal Screening: responsible for the initial screening of deals originated by, or presented to Prostar.
- Due Diligence: staffing and actively managing the deal team while working with the sponsor team and other joint venture partners to insure that all issues have been properly scrutinized and any concerns have been properly addressed.
- Structuring: work with other partners to insure the transaction is structured appropriately to properly address the risk of the project.
- Financing: work the lenders and third party equity participants to create the optimal capital structure to maximize returns while adequately managing risk.
- Approval: responsible for the overall content of each investment memorandum submitted to the Investment Committee.
- Portfolio Monitoring and Governance – Oversee and actively participate in the on-going management of investments.
- Sit on portfolio investment or joint venture boards.
- Continue due diligence post-investment to insure achieving the return objectives.
- Build and manage the Investing Team – Hire and train the fund team
- Oversee the professional development and mentoring of the Prostar employees in a manner consistent with the Prostar culture.
- Complete performance evaluations and compensation reviews of Prostar employees on an annual basis.
- Investor Relations, Fundraising and Fund Formation – Work closely with the Partners to finalize the initial capital raising for the fund
- Participate in investor presentations and performance updates.
- Participate in the investor relations effort over time.
- Play a leadership role in raising future additional funds.
CANDIDATE SPECIFACTION: KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Ideal Experience
- At least 10 years experience as a private equity investor or project finance professional within a corporation or large bank.
- A tangible and verifiable track record of investment and risk management success.
- At least 5 years of experience investing in energy and power assets.
- Familiarity with the energy and power sector and its regulatory processes.
- International expertise preferred, but not required.
- M. B. A. preferred, but not required.
