Director, School Nutrition Job in Bartow 33830, Florida US

Job Purpose:

This position exists to perform responsible administrative work in developing and directing the overall

foodservice program for the school district.

Job Duties:

Plans, organizes and directs the overall school nutrition program for the school district. Sets specifications, plans menus, determines quantities, and requisitions food. Establishes food tests for quality, acceptability and adherence to specifications. Plans and develops teaching materials for training personnel. Assists school principals and school nutrition managers in planning for new facilities and renovation of facilities. Attends meetings and conferences; conducts meetings and workshops for school nutrition personnel.

Determines school nutrition staffing needs for district schools. Prepares, reviews, and updates accounting,

inventory and other school nutrition reports. Prepares correspondence relating to the school nutrition program. Supervises the work of subordinate personnel and evaluates their performance. Coordinates the

Orientation Workshop for school nutrition substitutes. Assists with interviewing and screening of new

school nutrition employees.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of the local, state and federal laws and regulations applicable to school nutrition programs. Considerable knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the administration and operation of school nutrition programs, and of sanitary and safety conditions. Considerable knowledge of purchasing, warehousing, inventorying and accounting for food products. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with personnel and subordinates. Ability to use initiative and judgment in systemizing procedures, adjusting problems and grievances, and making recommendations relative to the revisions of standard operating procedures. Supervisory ability.

Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Business Administration,

Hotel and Restaurant Management, Food and Nutrition or related fields; a minimum of 5 years responsible school nutrition experience, including experience in a supervisory capacity. Basic knowledge of computers and related software. Possession of current credentials through the School Nutrition Association as a School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) or the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as a Registered Dietitian (RD) preferred.
