Director, Software Engineering Development Management
The Personal Investing - Retail Systems organization has an opportunity for a Director - Software Engineering/ Development in our Raleigh/Durham, NC office. This person will be accountable for overall planning and management of multiple, interdependent development efforts for the PI - Retail Systems organization. Ideal candidate will have experience developing and managing in a distributed environment. Knowledge of the Fidelity Investments brokerage technology and insurance platforms is a plus. The candidate must also have a good working knowledge of Fidelity distributed systems.
PI - Retail Systems is a fast paced, growing organization that supports a broad spectrum of business products. The key product areas we support are Retirement/529, Life Insurance, Cash Management and Representative Compensation.
Primary Responsibilities
· People Management
o Typically manages 10-12 exempt employees with a combination of managers and individual contributors; additional associates (both onshore and offshore) and variable labor can create a total team size of approximately 15-25 people
o Manages employees who perform similar or related tasks; may manage employees from multiple disciplines
o Oversees people and performance management activities carried out by Managers
o Makes hiring decisions, recommends pay actions,
o Establishes roles and performance goals
o Monitors performance and provides feedback
o Manages resource allocation across all initiatives
o Identifies developmental needs and provides development opportunities
· Functional/Technical Management
o Applies technologies, methods and concepts to maximize functional/operational capabilities while optimizing the use of resources by:
o Proposing and analyzing technology decisions (e.g., vendor selection, build vs buy, etc.)
o Seeking and applying optimum mix of technology versus resources to meet business goals
o Ensures effective use of technology vendors and internal Fidelity technology business partners. Stays abreast of technology innovations and recommends applicability to the business
o Ensures contingency activities are covered related to system/application availability
· Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
· 10+ years of related experience
· Possesses full project life cycle experience
· Financial Services/Insurance experience preferred
Skills and Knowledge
· Proven track record of excellent technical management
· Has prior experience leading teams and supervising people
· 10+ years working/developing in distributed systems environment (combination of web/thin client, Informatica/etl, Java, PLSQL, .Net, BI/Reporting)
· Knowledge of Fidelity Investments technology platforms a plus
