Director, State and Local Tax recruitment

Role Summary

Reporting to the Corporate Tax Director, the Director, State and Local Tax is responsible for planning and directing Russell Investments' tax position and obligations in the state and local income tax and sales and use tax area. This position will manage a small team of individuals and will work closely with other members of the tax, finance, and business groups to execute state and local tax planning and compliance.

The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:

• Execute tax planning and research, and the implementation of tax strategies to enchance Russell's state and local tax position.

• Oversee all state and local income tax compliance, including the preparation and review of tax returns, estimated payments, and tax provisions.

• Oversee all sales and use tax compliance, including the preparation and review of sales and use tax returns. Work closely with the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams to ensure proper sales and use tax treatment of transactions.

• Oversee all state and local income tax and sales and use tax audits.

• Manage relationship with outside tax consultants and regulatory authorities.


The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:

• Bachelor’s required; Master’s in Tax preferred.

• CPA License preferred.

• 10+ years of Corporate income tax experience in a Big 4 and/or large corporation

• 5+ years of State tax experience in a Big 4 and/or large multi-state corporation

• 5+ years of Management and leadership skills; demonstrated project management

• Ability to oversee complex corporate structures and related intercompany transactions

• Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate with senior management, clients and associates at all levels

• Strong leadership skills and experience, with the ability to direct others towards common goals

• Work efficiently under pressure with minimal supervision; ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments with attention to detail

• Possess a high level of personal integrity and professionalism
