DIRECTOR, STRATEGIC OPERATIONS

Title: Director, Strategic Operations Location: New York-New York Other Locations: TheDirector, Strategic Operations, Global Supply Management (GSM) will provide direct strategic, project, and administrative support to the SVP Chief Procurement Officer (CPO), the GSM leadership team, and, occasionally, the Company's top management. This position reports directly to the CPO. GSM handles all procurement and expense management requirements for American Express on a worldwide basis. GSM is a part of Global Business Services (GBS), which is a corporate shared services function that includes Global Financial Operations, Global Real Estate and Workplace Enablement, Global Human Resources Shared Services, and Global Business Transformation. Key responsibilities include: * Support GSM's strategic operations and maintain an infrastructure to drive financial contributions, superior service levels, and create value * Provide thought leadership and operational support to drive critical supply management initiatives * Develop strategic content for the CPO's interaction with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure a balance between business and customer needs with that of employee and leadership development related activities * Support GBS Culture initiatives for GSM, as well as employee engagement and learning and development programs * Create and manage a GSM communications calendar, including town halls, service effectiveness management discussions, senior leader presentations, and external events * Develop robust communications for senior-level internal and external meetings (e.g., town hall and executive "shirt sleeves" session presentations for GSM and GBS leadership, as well as top management) * Partner with Finance on managing the budget and long range planning * Drive Supplier Diversity initiatives to increase Tier I and Tier II procurement spend with diverse and small businesses globally * Steward enablement of suppliers on Company payment products * Maintain dashboards to monitor the operations of GSM * Coordinate with Human Resources throughout the year on processes such as talent reviews, the Performance Management Process, compensation, and hiring * Act as the main point of contact for the CPO's external business commitments * Work closely with peers and leaders across GBS to ensure alignment The ideal candidate is high-energy, proactive, adaptive to change, and able to perform well under pressure, as well as on multiple tasks simultaneously. American Express and/or top-tier management consulting firm experience preferred. An MBA or similar qualification would also be beneficial. Additional requirements: * Strategic thinking, analytical ability, and demonstrated thought leadership * Excellent written (text and graphical), verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear, compelling presentations * Proven project management discipline * Demonstrated aptitude to consult and diagnose strategic and operational issues * Ability to handle sensitive information with unwavering discretion * Superior relationship building and influencing skills for dealing with a wide range of global issues and diverse populations * Strategic planning expertise
