Tri-County Health Deparment is seeking a Disease Intervention Specialist for our Greenwood Village Office.

 

Duties: Performs day-to-day case investigation, follow-up and reporting of communicable disease incidents and outbreak investigations. General supervision is provided by the Disease Intervention Program Manager. Conducts day-to-day investigation, follow-up and reporting of communicable disease incidents.  Conducts interviews and site visits as needed.  Determines sources of infection and implements control measures.  Works in conjunction with a variety of health-related organizations in the performance of investigations. Conducts case-control interviews or other data collection for special communicable disease projects as assigned. Plays a lead role in outbreak investigation.  Works with Disease Intervention Program Manager, Medical Epidemiologist/Disease Control and Prevention Program Manager and Disease Intervention Field Team to perform outbreak investigation and response functions.  Writes reports of outbreak investigation. Provides technical support and expertise to TCHD staff, local health care providers, and the general public regarding communicable disease prevention and control via the phone and the Health Alert Network. Works with the Medical Epidemiologist/Disease Control and Prevention Program Manager and Disease Intervention Program Manager to monitor and identify trends and clusters of communicable diseases.  Develops action plans to address trends and issues. Works with communicable disease data through CEDRS system,.  Develops line lists, epi curves, basic epi analyses. Helps train Disease Intervention Field Team in various aspects of communicable disease investigation, control and surveillance. Maintains informational materials related to communicable diseases. Makes presentations on TCHD disease intervention activities and outbreak investigations. Performs other duties as assigned and required. Employee responds, as required, to support public health emergencies, incidents and events.  Employee participates in all exercises and drills on emergency preparedness, as required.  Completes trainings identified as appropriate for this level employee. 

 

Education: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing, community/public health, environmental health or related field and three years of related experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field and one year of experience; or one year in the DIS I position with successful performance reviews and completion of the Disease Intervention Specialist competencies required for advancement from a DIS I to a DIS II (Benchmarks). Possession of a valid driver’s license.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Principles of communicable disease epidemiology, investigative techniques and situation analysis of communicable disease incidents.

Medical terminology and reporting. Familiarity with basic quantitative epidemiology concepts. EpiInfo skills preferred. Coordinate and train professional and support staff in a productive and positive manner. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Tri-County Health Department employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community. Direct investigations and evaluate, quantify, and interpret information relative to disease epidemiology. Communicate accurately and effectively orally and in writing with the public, medical providers and the media under stressful circumstances. Interview notifiable disease cases and discuss sensitive topics with ill cases via the phone. Comfort discussing sensitive topics with ill cases.
