The SQL Server Distributed Database Analyst Senior provides senior level technical support and expertise for Relational Database Management Systems on critical and highly complex financial systems within the Federal Reserve.  Provides consultation and guidance to database analysts.  Performs database problem management, change management and maintenance working with both internal technical areas as well as business areas. Supports Financial Service applications which require efficient communication and organization skills.

·        This position will require weekend and after hour work at times. The person filling the position will be expected to work hours as required. This position also requires the ability to be on call based on business requirements.
 
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
 
Performs complex problem analysis and resolution for RDBMS software for complex configurations of critical databases maintaining data for critical, highly available, financial Relational Database Management systems.
 
Assists in strategic planning and database architecture and design.  Makes recommendations to management and business partners based on functional and business requirements.
 
Performs advanced installation, configuration, customization, and tuning of Rational Database Management System software.
Coordinate project activities and provide technical guidance to other Database Analysts for assigned projects.
Assists junior technical staff with questions and problems in usage of RDBMS software and FRS standards and procedures.
 

Position Requirements

Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, other related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and job-related work experience equal to 4 - 7 years.

Requires a minimum of seven years experience in Relational Database Administration and support of SQL Server, or UDB/DB2.

Requires Vendor certification for product supported (Oracle, SQL Server, UDB/DB2)

Senior knowledge and experience with relational database architecture, database design, configuration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, installation, customization, SQL programming and tuning.

 

Senior knowledge and experience with multiple Relational Database Management Systems and Distributed Operating Systems.

 

Senior problem analysis, determination, resolution and consultation skills.

 

Senior database security knowledge, experience and ability to consult with auditors and regulators.

 

Senior analytical, innovation and organizational skills to resolve highly complex technical problems.

 

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to report findings, make recommendations and to interact with all levels of management and vendors.

Independently evaluates and analyzes complex technical issues and problems related to distributed relational database management software and applications. Assists in decisions regarding implementation of RDBMS software. Makes recommendations to management regarding complex problem resolutions and issues. Technical guidance and recommendations impact the Federal Reserve System.  Inappropriate decisions or recommendations could result in financial loss, and or reputation loss for the FRS. Works in a highly visible, data sensitive, vulnerable, high risk area.

Performs with a high degree of independence. Is considered a senior level technical advisor on database technology.  Provides consultation and technical assistance to other database analysts. May supervise staff.
