Distribution Counsel, Legal & Business Affairs (NY) Job in New York, New York Us


Senior affiliate sales attorney providing legal and strategic support for U.S., Canadian and Caribbean distribution of 10 A+E networks (plus HD and VOD), including AE, History and Lifetime, on cable, satellite, telco, and alternative technology platforms.

Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel (DGC"), this attorney will work directly with the EVP, Distribution and EVP, Distribution National Accounts, as well as the Distribution Sales and Marketing department, to negotiate and draft distribution agreements with major distributors, and drive success in renewal and new deals, as follows:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Negotiating and drafting of distribution agreements directly with distributors across all platforms

Assisting in management of the Legal team in Los Angeles supporting distribution (includes 2 distribution attorneys)

Analyzing, interpreting and identifying operating issues arising from affiliation agreements

Managing MFN compliance in all distribution deals

Negotiating and drafting VOD, mobile, digital media and TV everywhere deals directly with distributors across platforms

Assisting DGC in overseeing legal administration of all A+E Networks distribution agreements and annual renewals, audits and collections

Required Experience:
Minimum 8-10 years television/cable network distribution experience, including experience with major law firm and in-house legal department of a major television distributor or programming network group with exposure to industry trends and emerging platforms. Strong, detailed transactional contract drafting. Excellent communication skills for negotiating with distributors and presenting to senior executives. Strategic and persuasive negotiator with good business acumen. Flexibility in response to client needs and goals. Ability to represent A+E Networks persuasively and effectively with top distributors. Self-starter, problem-solver, detail-oriented, excellent follow-through.
