JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Logistics, the Distribution Center Supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Distribution Center including as-is/salvage, shipping/receiving, warehousing and transportation. This position supervises the truck drivers and warehouse staff and works closely with the ADC Supervisor in support of the agency’s community donation centers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

Demonstrates superior customer service at all times.  Handles employee, donor and customer (internal and external) complaints in a fair and impartial manner.

Hires, trains, schedules, reviews, separates and provides oversight of the As-Is, transportation, dock, and distribution center operations including employees, program participants and volunteers.

Responsible for opening, closing and securing of warehouses, truck yards and As-Is yards. 

 

Directs the loading and unloading of all store orders, salvage appointments, ADC deliveries, and trash runs.

Responsible for the effective and secure handling of New Goods product, from the point of receipt through the process of warehousing and distribution of product to stores.  Responsible for weekly cycle counts and bi-annual inventory not to exceed established percentage of error/shrink.    

Oversee and supervise the salvage and recycling operations, including but not limited to, trash, textiles, metal and cardboard, ensuring complete and accurate recordkeeping and maximum profit for accounting purposes.

Ensure vehicle and equipment licensing, maintenance, and record keeping meets compliance with the Federal Transit Administration and U.S. Department of Transportation, State of California Highway Patrol and biannual inspection of terminals (BIT) program.

 

Ensure a safe work environment.  Monitor safe operation of all agency equipment.  Instill proper safety attitudes throughout operations.  Responsible for timely accident reporting and adherence to the Agency’s safety program.

 

Regular attendance is required to perform essential functions of the job,

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Education Required:    High school graduate or accredited GED equivalent.

 

Experience Required:   Five years supervisory experience in a warehouse setting with at least two years’   experience in transportation/logistics.

 

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge Required:   Knowledge of warehouse and inventory management systems, shipping/receiving and distribution of material and OSHA safety regulations. In-depth knowledge of DOT rules and regulations, knowledge of techniques and principles of supervision, basic recordkeeping, customer service practices; and knowledge of safety and security in a warehouse setting. Basic mechanical knowledge of trucks, forklifts, balers, and compactors.

 

Equipment Used:         Forklift, baler, compactor, adding machine, calculator, time recorder, facsimile, telephone, voice mail, hand truck, pallet jack, ladder, “Big Joe” power lift, tri-wall systems and processing equipment, PC computer. Software programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, and E-mail.

 

Ability to deal effectively to resolve customer service issues.

Ability to schedule, train, supervise, and monitor activities of assigned staff.

Ability to operate all equipment assigned to the distribution centers and MDC sites.

Ability to write and speak effectively in English.

Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, and other Agency personnel.

 

 

This position requires moderate emotional effort involving low to high customer involvement (internal and external) with occasional maximum emotional effort required in resolving customer conflicts with the ability to problem solve, prioritize work assignments, and work well under pressure. 

 

 

Must possess a valid class C California driver’s license (or ability to obtain), proof of insurance, and have access to reliable transportation. Forklift certification or ability to obtain.

 

JOB SETTING

 

Work environment is fast paced with high activity/demands. Flexible work schedule, including weekends and holidays.  Variable working conditions, exposure to extreme heat and cold – temperature ranging from 25 to 115 degrees.

 

 

Ability to ambulate, reach and lift up to 50 lbs.  Ability to bend/lift from waist.  Ability to stand for long periods of time and climb a ladder.  Good eye/hand coordination.  Good dexterity in upper extremities and upper torso, moving from side to side, bending at the waist.
