Divisional Director
The Risk Management Group (RMG) is an independent, centralised unit responsible for assessing and monitoring risks across Macquarie. This includes market and liquidity risk, credit risk, compliance risk and operational risk. RMG personnel liaise closely with all operating areas to ensure risks are understood and properly managed.
Our risk management group encourages its business units to be innovative and entrepreneurial within defined risk parameters. RMG is an independent unit, responsible for assessing, quantifying and mitigating risks across the businesses. The group's principal responsibility is to take an independent view on all of the risk decisions made by the business and is viewed as a valued partner in supporting the growth of all of Macquarie's businesses. On principal transactions, Credit works with the deal teams to develop risk mitigation strategies.
The group seeks a talented individual to join the Credit Risk team in New York. The successful candidate will have a minimum of ten years risk management experience closely aligned with credit trading and leveraged finance businesses of their previous employers. He/She will assist in the execution and structuring of complex debt and equity transactions including principal, project and structured finance transactions, in a deal-oriented environment. Working as part of a growing, high profile team who deal extensively with senior management, his/her ability and proven record of effectively managing and analyzing complex transactions will be key to the success of the role and Macquarie's businesses.
Candidate Profile
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulating and jointly sponsoring with the business, the overall risk appetite for the credit business
- Delivering strategic objectives in risk management
- Assisting in the execution, structuring and objective analysis of new complex transactions
- Maintaining an ongoing dialogue with international Senior Risk Management and deal teams across all businesses to identify relevant key business and risk related issues and make appropriate recommendations
- Ensuring that appropriate guidelines, procedures and approvals are in place for new products and limits, through proactive liaison with the appropriate business units and other relevant areas, including senior management in the Risk Management Group
- Working in tandem with other sectors within Macquarie's risk group: Market, Operational, Compliance and Internal Audit
Key Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of risk management in terms of practices, procedures and principles on a global scale
- Experience in leveraged finance and credit trading
- Strong track record of execution, structuring, analysis and approval of complex and diverse principal investment transactions in a fast-paced and deal-oriented environment
- Existing knowledge of the North American market, including equity and debt underwriting.
- Strong commercial orientation and understanding of business and risk-related issues
- Qualifications in finance, economics, engineering, or other quantitative disciplines, ideally with postgraduate studies
- Persuasive communication skills (both written and verbal) and confidence when being challenged
- A collegial team member who builds strong, open, dialogue-based relationships with relevant businesses, clients and colleagues
- Self-directed in an unpredictable market environment
- Pro-active, flexible and outgoing
