Documentation Services Manager

We are looking for a Documentation Services Manager to manage our software product documentation services. As Documentation Services Manager your primary purpose is to design, create and maintain all documentation practices and processes for both customer and internal needs to ensure the highest quality of documentation possible. This position is also responsible for leading and working with a team of Technical Writers who produce documentation and managing the day-to-day duties and needs of the Documentation Services team.
Duties include:
- Creating, implementing and maintaining best practices to ensure cost-effective, accurate and timely documentation;
- Working with Development, Managed Services, Quality Assurance, and Customer Support teams to manage documentation needs across business lines and products;
- Continually researching and evaluating best documentation practices, which may include new technologies, tools, quality standards and formats;
- Solving informational challenges;
- Ensuring all customer user manuals, product documentation, and design history files are accurate and current;
- Managing access to and organizing external documents, such as customer documents and PCI regulations;
- Facilitating periodic review of documents in order to comply with Tomax requirements;
- Designing and creating complex technical written documentation, such as user manuals, installation manuals, help documents and tutorials based upon customer and internal teams;
- Conducting necessary research needed to complete new or update existing technical documentation and other similar projects;
- Assisting Managers, Analysts, and Developers with plans and outlines for assigned projects;
- Maintaining best practices to ensure cost-effective and timely documentation;
- Managing project assignments and workflow of the Documentation Services team; and
- Managing all Documentation Services personnel, which may include mentoring, hiring, firing, performance management, and day-to-day needs of the team.
The successful candidate should have the following:
- 10+ years in technical writing, documentation, or similar role;
- Experience working in a software company environment (Commercial, Off-the-Shelf (COTS) products preferred);
- Experience in internal quality auditing;
- Experience in a lead role and management of personnel;
- Proficiency in collaborative workflow systems (Agile);
- High proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage documentation services and controls;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail; and
- Excellent self motivation.
