Chevron's San Joaquin Valley Business Unit (SJV) is accepting online applications for Drilling Engineer positions that will be responsible for planning onshore developments wells in Southern California. SJV manages Chevron's onshore oil and gas production assets in Southern California and is headquartered in Bakersfield, California.

Drilling engineers work as part of a functional group that supports asset teams. The position is responsible for performing technical drilling engineering for well design, cost estimates, project planning, operations support and review of rig requirements. The Drilling Engineer develops drilling programs and procedures, including endorsements and approvals. Selected candidates will participate in field reviews, peer reviews, optimization studies, and gather local operational knowledge/experience. The Engineer will apply Capital Stewardship principles, Decision Analysis, Risk Assessment and Drilling Engineering practices. Drilling engineers are expected to be active members of Chevron's Global DC Networks Communities of Practice in order to capture and share lessons learned and best practices with the work group and global DC community.

Position Details:
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 5 relevent experience
  • Demonstrated competency in well design execution.
  • Capable of utilizing Risk Uncertainty Management Management of Change standards in well design execution through multi-disciplined teams.
  • Consistently demonstrates leadership through frequent engagements at the well-site.
  • Must be capable of effectively representing DC in multifunctional teams.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Proven experience in the practice of DC project management and performance processes (focus on performance improvement, risk management, category management).
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work activities of suppliers, third party resources, and other drilling engineers.
  • Candidate must be willing and able to travel to field operation sites as needed.
  • Candidate must be capable of effectively mentoring lesser experienced personnel, as applicable.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with shallow, heavy oil steam floods with high bottom hole temperatures.
