Duties and Responsibilities

To perform engineering studies and analyses, and provide operations support related to various technical aspects in drilling with possible options in reservoir, completion and production/operations engineering; provide help in the design and implementation of casing design, directional plans and drilling procedures; manage the complex drilling operation including both people and technology; review and monitor mud programs, directional drilling methods and logging methods; direct and prepare graphic records relative to drilling, well histories, bit performance records, directional surveys, and drilling cost records; and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Work Conditions

Requires working overtime, weekends and/or holidays to complete projects or meet deadlines; and travel with overnight stays. Position will initially be in Rock Springs, Wyo., for one to three years, with relocation to the corporate office in Salt Lake City, Utah, after field training is complete. Extensive stays on drilling locations will be required initially as well as extensive interaction with the regulatory department.

 

Minimum Qualifications

·         Knowledge of: petroleum-engineering principles and practices; natural gas-drilling and -production operations; various types of well-bore equipment and operations; experience with personal computers and related software (Word, Excel and Access are preferred); and oil and gas reserve estimation techniques including, but not limited to, decline-curve analysis.

·         Skill in: relating interpersonally.

·         Ability to: apply scientific principles to analyze and solve problems; communicate effectively orally and in writing; understand and complete written and oral instructions; gather, research, and analyze data and prepare financial, statistical or analytical studies and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of grammar and punctuation; see objects at close range; respond to emergency conditions in the field, off-road environment (i.e., changing flat tires; chaining-up vehicles, operating jacks, performing minor maintenance and operating a two-way radio); contribute to a positive work environment; be courteous to co-workers and customers; follow directions from supervisors; and refrain from abusive or profane language and behavior in the workplace.

·         Requirements: regular attendance; a bachelor’s of science degree in petroleum, mechanical or chemical engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology-accredited institution; four years of experience in drilling and/or production operations, preferably in the field, on-site; successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and professional engineering registration are preferred; a valid driver’s license; an acceptable driving record; undergo annual audiometric testing; obtain and maintain medical clearance to wear a respirator; travel to field regularly; and adherence to all company policies, including the Questar Corporation Business Ethics and Compliance Policy.
