- Execution of fieldwork encompassed in marine services, industrial cleaning, UST removal, waste packaging and disposal, site demolition, emergency spill response and site cleanup projects while under little or no supervision.
- Execution of advanced skills in work associated with one or more of the skilled trades/crafts.
- Ability to respond to oil /petroleum spill on shoreline and uneven terrain under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to load/ unload drums, cylinders, equipment from and into vans, flatbeds, trailers
- Ability to perform confined space work inside tanks of varying dimensions; involving squatting and crawling for possible extended periods.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and carrying (up to 75 pounds); use of hand tools, power tools, bending, stooping, shoveling and other physically demanding tasks on a daily basis.
- Ability to assist in retrieval or cleanup of biomedical waste
- Execution of competent person training which includes field calibration of combustible gas indicators (CGI).
- Ability to attach and operate equipment attachments for various vehicles (forklift, bobcat, etc).
- The ability to safely drive and perform safety checks on all NRC vehicles (including Class A /B) and all NRC marine vessels as required.
- Ability to set up a containment reduction zone consistent with OSHA regulations.
- Ability to calibrate and use air monitoring equipment.
- Must be clean shaven at all times to allow for immediate donning of respirator.
- Ability to repair and service both diesel and gas engines in the land and marine based fleets.
- Ability to work under a compressed time schedule to repair equipment as needed.
- Maintain inventory control of all expendable supplies, small tools and work related equipment. Reorder supplies as required to maintain supply levels.
- Clean and restock all response trailers, vans and trucks.
- Decon and test run all small tools, pumps, etc upon return from spills or projects. Make repairs as needed to maintain equipment readiness.
- Maintain yard and yard office cleanliness, includes entire fleet of pick-up trucks, tractors and trailers.
- Ability to load/ unload drums, cylinders, equipment from and into vans, flatbeds, trailers
- Certified to operate a forklift, bobcat, blowers, diaphragm pumps, and man lift and boats. Ability to attach and operate equipment attachments for various vehicles (forklift, bobcat, etc).
- The ability to safely drive and perform safety checks on all vehicles for which licensed.
- Familiar with all project related forms and documents as well as being an expert in the layout and operation of Company equipment as well as a variety of construction/rental equipment.
- Must be able to understand and comply with company and client safety standards.
- Proficient in the completion of all job-specific, employee related NRCES paper work including Timesheets, Daily Work Reports and Daily Tailgate Safety Meeting Forms. Correct completion of Driver’s Logs and Notes/Incident Action Logbook. Correct completion of Hazardous Waste Manifests, Health and Safety Forms, Job Start Forms and Client Summary of Event Forms as required.
- Ability to follow directions; read/write/speak and understand English; read and understand common danger placards / labels and hazardous warning literature including site safety plans.
Requires High School or GED (or equivalent reading, writing and reasoning skills) and 2-5 years of experience performing directly related work (fire fighting, emergency response, general construction, industrial cleaning). Qualified employees must possess or be able to complete the 40/80-hour HAZWOPER certification (depending on state), plus possess 8 hour haz wop refresher certificate, if due. Needs 8 hour OSHA Supervisor Certification. Must have a valid Class A License with Hazmat and Tanker Endorsements and a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets the NRCES Business Driving Policy standards. Must demonstrate level B competence with both SCBA and air-line respirators. Must have completion of applicable training to operate assigned equipment including large centrifugal pumps, pressure washers (all types, including hydroblasters), Bobcats (small equipment) Backhoes, front end loaders, Trackhoes, scissor lifts, man lifts, vacuum trucks and super suckers. Need HM181 / 126F DOT Driver Training. Must have training in hazardous materials management and compliance, or equivalent topics. Completion of applicable trade or craft training or apprenticeship programs preferred. Must be Confined Space Qualified and have CPR/First Aid Training.
