Velcro USA Inc., the leading manufacturer of hook and loop fastening systems, is currently seeking a Dye Chemist. The Dye Chemist will perform engineering work to evaluate new and existing manufacturing products and processes with primary focus on dyeing products and processes. They will provide dye chemistry expertise to preserve or improve dyeing process performance, and prepare dyeing formulations in support of new product introductions and supply chain variation. They will lead continuous improvement projects that are focused on process optimization in a manufacturing environment.
Essential job functions include:
- Develop, maintain, and update Project Charters and Implementation Plans (includes, establishing project scope, anticipated gains, required resources, timelines, etc.)
- Lead and set direction for project teams to identify and minimize variation in manufacturing processes.
- Utilize Six Sigma tools and DMAIC/DMADV philosophy to characterize and improve existing
- Process and translate customer requirements into repeatable and capable manufacturing processes.
- Plan and conduct experimental tests, analyze process/test data and reports to determine if new products, processes, and tooling meet functional and performance specifications.
- Establish and implement control plans to ensure project gains and improvements are realized and maintained over time.
- Support transfer of project solutions or new processes to on-going operations, through operators training and development of standard operating procedures, where applicable.
- Act as technical liaison to product and equipment development groups, which will involve participation on design review teams and/or project teams. Develop product and equipment specifications to ensure resulting process (es) are manufacturing capable.
- Conduct industrial engineering studies and work with Cost Accounting to verify accurate cost models.
The successful candidate must have:
- B.S. Degree in Textile Chemistry, Textile Engineering, Chemistry or other related field.
- Direct experience operating dye processing equipment, developing / adjusting dye formulations to match color, and trouble shooting dyeing processes to achieve consistent color/shade matching.
- Basic knowledge of statistics and probability and Lean / Six Sigma Tools (including Process Mapping, FMEA, DOE, Gage RR, Hypothesis Testing, Regression Analysis, Capability Analysis, Control Plans, etc.).
- Basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office software.
- Strong leadership, teamwork, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to self pace learning including book, web-base and classroom participation.
