The Gonzales Weekly Citizen, a Gatehouse Media, Inc. newspaper, is accepting resumes for an editor for our award-winning community newspaper, located in Ascension parish, one of the fastest growing parishes in the state of Louisiana. The person we're seeking must be hands-on in all aspects of community journalism.The editor will be responsible for gathering general news for our weekly newspaper and website.Included in that performance are attending various news events, town hall meetings, and other regular meetings held by governmental bodies. In addition, the editor is responsible for covering breaking news events when needed. Other roles includes organization of newsroom beats, assignments and editing of stories and photo content for weekly edition and website. The editor is the direct supervisor of reporter positions, sports editor, and/or freelance reporters. The editor also complies a weekly budget and design notes to be used for pagination. The editor is also the face of the newspaper in the public, and is the contact person when there are questions from the public regarding content or decisions affecting the content of the newspaper and website. This individual we seek should also have writing, photography, and management experience, knowledge of the web and social media, and must be a people person, able to deal with all aspects of the staff, including stringers, along with the kind of personality to be able to deal with the public on a daily basis. This is a full-time position and will be filled quickly.
