Job Description
Markets and Assessments Quality, which was established in editorial in September 2012 as a critical part of Platts' three lines of defense for operational risk management, is tasked with monitoring the performance of operational controls relating to the price assessment process across all editorial sectors and regions. In order to leverage our small team we are, where possible, developing smart and automated ways of monitoring large amounts of key risk indicator data rather than relying on manual checks which will use up our resource very quickly and limit our scope. The Editorial Quality Analyst will use advanced data analytical skills and knowledge of the commodity markets to help us design the best way to obtain, collect and present the data, and will set it up in our data tables for ongoing use by MAQ.
The Editorial Quality Analyst will also provide operational support to the market reporting functions across the various commodity sectors in the editorial department in EMEA, as directed by MAQ. This will consist of running small projects for the sectors (for example a review and clean up of assessment spreadsheets used by a commodity group), and analyzing process to find more automated ways for editorial management to manage operational tasks that are essential but would otherwise divert them from core activities like ensuring the quality of our price assessments, commentaries and news, engaging with the market, and developing and overseeing the reporting teams under them. The Editorial Quality Analyst will play some part in ensuring that these operational requirements are completed, providing hands on, practical help to the editorial sector where necessary.
Accountabilities:
• Work with MAQ globally to understand the scope, the purpose and the relative priority of the Key Risk and Quality Indicators that MAQ needs to build out in order to run a full monitoring program within editorial. Work with editorial sectors to understand the underlying business process and systems used. Develop data solutions that will give MAQ the most accurate and automated view of the controls they need to monitor, and work with Data Management to extract data from source systems and build data tables in our strategic in house metrics database, so that MAQ can implement our monitoring process and any required reporting
• Under the direction of MAQ, assist the editorial sectors at all levels with projects that will improve their operational controls, especially where these pertain to data or use of Excel. Work with MAQ Director and Editorial Management to identify suitable projects, such as improving and standardizing assessments spreadsheets, or finding more automated ways for price reporting staff to adhere to editorial standards
• Under the direction of MAQ, assist the editorial sectors and MAQ with operational tasks as required:
• Manage the retention of critical sector/regional documentation, such as How To Guides, Assessment Spreadsheets, and other documents relating to market reporting
• Ensure all documentation outlined by the regional market reporting management is securely maintained on shared drive/folders and is maintained using a defined structure. Manage staff permissions for all secure document storage sites. Help editorial management with organizing, archiving and cataloguing according to record retention standards reporter notebooks (i.e. Iron Mountain).
• Develop and maintain an a shared market reporting/operational calendar for each commodity sector to ensure that critical market reporting tasks, such as how-to guides, managerial reviews, notes retention, source management documentation, methodology guide updates, can be planned and organized. Maintain this calendar and communicate the status of tasks
• Work with Data Management team to understand in house data systems and capabilities
• Where necessary build relationships with editorial in other regions – at a minimum keep a global perspective
• Balances the business needs of editorial sectors with the need for robust operational control
• Runs data related projects from end to end
