Teaching Matters is seeking exceptional educational coaches to implement a ground-breaking teacher effectiveness support model for urban schools. This career opportunity offers the right candidates the chance to have a major impact on urban K-12 teachers and students.
The primary role of the educational coach will be to support schools in establishing student outcome-focused professional learning communities (PLCs) in math or literacy. The coach’s objective will be to empower teachers to achieve measurable student outcomes through a process of collaboration to set and accomplish common instructional goals. Work will primarily be school-based and require intensive interaction with school leaders, teacher leaders, and teachers.
Responsibilities include
Leading teacher teams
- Execute a clear roadmap for leading teachers to achieve student outcomes
- Support teachers in using data effectively to drive instruction
- Facilitate idea sharing and collaboration in a group setting
- Mentor and develop teachers to address individual needs, offer strategies, and determine next steps
Developing and empowering teacher leaders
- Prepare team leaders who ultimately lead continuous improvement throughout a school
- Lead institutes focusing on specific areas of collective capacity building for cross-school teams
Guiding and collaborating with school leaders
- Organize teacher teams for success with collaboration from school leaders
- Determine most effective organizational structure for teams to achieve outcomes
- Sustain and expand continuous improvement efforts for school-wide success
- Align teacher evaluation systems to teachers’ goal setting
Key Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years experience as a coach/school leader AND minimum of 4 years (grades K-12) of teaching or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated effectiveness in achieving ambitious, measurable student results in reading, writing, and / or math
- Experience facilitating teacher teams / groups to achieve student outcomes
- Experience delivering professional development institutes to groups of teachers and/or coaches
- Demonstrated capacity in being a catalyst for change, well organized, and collaborative problem-solver
- Demonstrated knowledge of classroom management strategies
- Experience in urban schools
- Technology skills with current computer software, including word processing and online collaboration tools
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Superior interpersonal skills to motivate and lead others at all levels within a school
