MISSION:

This position is responsible for implementing and executing safety, health and environmental programs that effectively minimizes accidents and property loss to the New Philadelphia, Ohio and Wellsburg, West Virginia plants. Responsibilities also include the full compliance and enforcement of all safety activities required by OSHA and other regulatory agencies, all federal, state worker compensation laws, and corporate policies.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Directs, monitors, and performs accident investigations, safety inspections and audits

• Develops safety training schedules and creates safety awareness to support safety initiatives

• Develops Safety Programs: Hazard Communications and MSDS’s, Lock Out/Tag Out, Ergonomics, Emergency Organization, Fire Prevention, Forklift Safety, Confined Space, Personal Protective Equipment, etc
Manages the Return-to-Work program

• Directs, submits and monitors records, summaries and reporting as required by OSHA and Corporate

• Analyze, prepare and maintain mandatory/regulatory related safety and environmental reports and records

• Provides workers compensation administration for the New Philadelphia, OH and Wellsburg, WV plants.

• Implements corporate and local safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations

• Initiates meetings with local workers compensation administrator and perform semi- annual claim reviews

• Demonstrates a high level of visibility in the plant production area and exhibits a positive attitude in order to establish an effective and responsible safety culture

• Acts as a resource to Plant Management regarding all safety and environmental related services operations

• Effectively carries out all responsibilities of managerial role, including requirements pertaining to interdepartmental cooperation and project management

• Develops, updates and implements safety polices as they relate to employee, visitor, trucker and contractors activities while on Plant property

• Directs effective safety orientation for new employees, including administering Plant hearing conservation program and annual audiometric testing, safety and training audio visual library, industrial hygiene monitoring and equipment maintenance; hazard communication program (MSDS) compensation file review with insurance carriers

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year College or University

• CSP (Certified Safety Professional), (I.H.) Industrial Hygiene certification, or OSHA certification a plus

• 3 + years of direct safety and environmental management experience in an industrial environment

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including presentation and training).

• Good interpersonal and superior team building skills.

• Proficient in Word, Excel and Power Point. Prior experience working in a union environment preferred.
