ELECTRICAL DESIGNER
Our client, a world class EPCM firm is a multi-disciplined organization; they can undertake every stage of mining project development from scoping studies and metallurgical test work, to feasibility analysis and final design, to construction and commissioning. We have carried out over 350 projects worldwide in the fields of alumina/aluminum, copper, gold, diamonds, zinc, potash, iron ore and nickel including some of the largest projects ever undertaken in the industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Prepare commercial electrical designs and manage all facets of electrical designs to support architectural undertakings
- Prepare Electrical Design Criteria
- Prepare/review electrical engineering studies, reports calculations
- Prepare power system single line diagrams including protective relaying
- Develop electrical systems (power, lighting, grounding, F/A, communications) concepts and layouts
- Design HV, MV and LV substation equipment layouts
- Prepare electrical equipment specifications and data sheets
- Prepare electrical material and installation specifications
- Supervise preparation of construction drawings
- Ensure coordination with other design disciplines
- Ensure compliance with project and corporate procedures standards
- Prepare engineering and capital cost estimates
- Review project team electrical work
- Review shop drawings and ensure coordination of Vendor data with design
- Meet project budgets and schedules
- Prepare technical bid analyses
QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years electrical engineering design experience on heavy industrial, oil gas and/or mining projects, ideally in an EPC/EPCM environment
- Ability to work as part of a design team
- Familiarity with applicable CSA, NEMA and IEC based electrical codes, standards and regulations
- Demonstrated oral and written English communication skills
- Hands-on working capability with current versions of Microsoft WORD and EXCEL
- Familiarity with power systems analysis software (eg SKM Dapper/Captor) an asset
- Experience with PDS Raceway 3-D modeling an asset
- Hands on experience with ETAP or SKM Analysis engineering software
- Hands on experience with Smart Plant Electrical software
- Hands on experience in Smart Plant 3D raceway design
- Hands on experience in Auto-Cad / Micro-station CAD
