Under occasional guidance you will devise and implement test stands for electric machines and implement new sensor and monitoring techniques. Essential Responsibilities As an Electrical Machines Technician you will work as part of our dynamic electrical machines team. You will, with guidance, develop and implement test and monitoring methods for conventional and new electrical machines of strategic impact for a variety of GE business applications such as power generation, transportation, industrial motors, and installations in the oil and gas industry. Under periodic guidance you will: - Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines and be a strong and active contributor to Standard Operating Procedures of lab test set-ups, in particular for experiments with rotating electrical machines. - Based on safety and functional requirements, design drive stands of electrical machines. - Assemble, install, and test components of electrical machines under accelerated electrical, thermal, mechanical or environmental aging conditions. - Design or modify experimental setups, and operate, test, and calibrate experimental equipment for routine tests from general instructions. - Perform a variety of experiments; perform non-routine experiments from general instructions. Observe the experiment critically, take pertinent data. - Reduce data using appropriate mathematical techniques, including the use of computers. Prepare data such that the supervisor can analyze it. Using empirical reasoning, recommend changes in experimental equipment and methods for subsequent experiments. - Be responsible for the maintenance of standard laboratory equipment. - Maintain complete and accurate records of all work. With periodic guidance, provide data for formal reports (oral and written) of all work. Take initiative to communicate work progress with team members, contractors, and vendors. Qualifications/Requirements: - Associates with a field of study in electrical, mechanical or related technical discipline with at least 4 years hands-on experience with testing of rotating electrical machines (OR a Bachelors degree with a field of study in electrical, mechanical or related technical discipline with at least 1 year of hands-on experience with testing of rotating electrical machines.) - Familiarity with data acquisition techniques and software packages. - Experience with hardware integration of electric drive trains. - Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
