Job Description: Performs a wide variety of tasks through verbal or detailed instructions in support the installation of SHIPALT DDG-51- 70320 AN/SQQ-89A (V) 15 Installation on board USS BULKELEY (DDG-84).   Perform cable removal, cable installation, cable termination, cable testing, cable banding, MCP/MCT refurbishment and testing, cable tags and connector hookup. Maybe required to perform minor cosmetic work to include painting and lagging. May perform informal, self in-process self checks on items prior to submitting to formal inspection and/or test personnel. 

Required Skills: Minimum of 5 years experience in building MILSTD connectors to include Canon plugs, multipin connectors, coax connectors, triax connectors and fiber optics. Must be Familiar with reading electrical drawings and be able to work in confined spaces or heights. Contractor must use the cableway mod drawing to install all cables to ensure correct routing of the cables. Must have experience wiring up power panels, SSABT, transformers, cutout switches, terminal boxes and any other equipment that does not utilize a connector. Ability to use power tools including saws, drills, grinders and any other power tools required to perform the effort. A functional knowledge of basic electronics including electronic component identification, and interpretation of mechanical and electrical schematics is required.  Will also be required to test, QA and repair connectors as required. Must be familiar with various types of multipin connectors and correct building procedures. Experience using electronic/electrical hand tools and other related tools including soldering irons, cable crimpers, tie wrap guns, crimp tool positioners and turrets, insertion and extraction tools to build multiple types of connectors, using drawings, wire lists and technical repair standards.  Ability to perform mechanical assembly and limited testing (point to point check with multi-meter) of sub assemblies and cables. Able to obtain Shipboard connector cert per NAVSEA Standard 009-73, cable installation TS9090-310(F) and fiber optic MILSTD 2042(SH) and IAW 9090-310F

Desired and other Skills: Formal training to industry standards such as Shipboard connector cert is typically per NAVSEA Standard 009-73, cable installation TS9090-310(F) and fiber optic is MILSTD 2042(SH) and IAW 9090-310F certified and VSWR and TDR testing.

 

Required Education: High School or equivalent with 8 years experience.
