Ability to Obtain Interim Clearance (Pre-Start) and Final Clearance (Post Start) - US Citizenship Required about security clearance definitions Position Description This is an entry level position in the Boeing Testing and Evaluation (BTE) Physics Laboratory. The position will require the candidate to assist with test technology development, design and performance of optical and electromagnetic characterization of materials for military applications. The candidate will also assist in the design and development of new test techniques and provide support for a number of existing test and evaluation projects. The position is integral to the development of new materials, the qualification of operation system hardware, and the advancement of test technology. The position also includes requirement definition, software definition, test apparatus development, hardware-software integration, optical system analysis, qualification testing, data analysis and reporting. Candidate must communicate well and work in a team environment under the direct supervision of senior engineering staff. Technical + Applied Optical Physics Basic knowledge of applied optical physics and environmental physics (e.g., propagation, attenuation, absorption, performance factors, electromagnetic field theory, polarization) and their effects across the spectrum. + Optical System Design Basic knowledge of infrared/electro-optical (IR/EO), visible, ultraviolet (UV), photonics, fiber, high energy laser, optics systems design methods (e.g., optical, opto-mechanical, supportability, life-cycle) for communications, measurements, surveillance, tactical, strategic, and weapons applications (e.g., component, unit, subsystem, system, algorithm, software design, low observables). + Optical System Testing Basic knowledge of infrared/electro-optical (IR/EO), visible, ultraviolet (UV), photonics, fiber, high energy laser, and optics unit test, sub-system test, system test, installation test, performance test, operational test, built-in test, quality test, and acceptance test procedures. This includes knowledge of electromagnetic (EM) and/or optical test equipment (e.g., network analyzer, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer, photometer, power meters, radiometer) and technologies (e.g. sensors, laser trackers, photogrammetry, laser scanners, modems, fiber optics). Typical Education/Experience Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
