Equities IT at Barclays covers three main business lines; Equity Derivatives, Cash Equities and Prime Services Execution. Trading desks for these business areas are located globally in London, New York, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong. External clients and Sales are across the globe, serviced from our core locations. 

Application Management within Equities deals with all ?Run the Bank (RTB)? activities from production support (incident problem management root cause analysis), Environment/Configuration management, Change Release management and minor projects / enhancements to production

Main Function

Barclays is focusing on growing its Equity related businesses significantly.  The Cash Equities RTB team manage the production environment for Barclays? bespoke Equity trading applications globally, covering single-stock, program, algorithmic, futures, low latency DMA trading and internalisation. The candidate will join a team dedicated to providing L2/L3 support for the Electronic Trading platform to all Cash Equities businesses.  Responsibilities include building and supporting the technology environment, ensuring the smooth running of production systems and providing an exceptional level of service to Barclays? internal and external clients. There will be significant exposure to senior front-office trading and sales people

Main Duties

As a senior member of the Cash Equities Electronic Trading RTB team in London, the candidate will have the following responsibilities:       

·         Line management of team members both in London and in offshore locations

·         Technical lead for the co-location / low-latency platforms

·         Provide engineering support (Level 2/3) for strategic Equities Cash Electronic Trading Technology in London, focusing on Algorithmic Trading (including Smart-Order Routing and Internalisation) and Exchange Connectivity

·         Improve stability and resiliency by identifying problems and driving improvements in infrastructure, tooling and application design

·         Manage the Electronic Trading hardware estate, including procurement, upgrades and BCM planning

·         Ownership of the capacity and performance management programme throughout the Electronic Trading platform

·         Assist the business-aligned Level 1 team with supporting Equities traders and Ops covering all aspects of the front-to-back trade flow

 

·         Uphold and champion policies, procedures and standards

 

·         Participate in the problem management lifecycle, tracking and driving issues through problem resolution to controlled change

 

Person Requirements

Qualification / Education Required

Graduate

Experience Required

Listed equity markets technology experience in a related front-office application support or application engineering role

Experience Preferred

Experience of liaising / working with exchanges and/or algorithmic trading

Experience of facing off to senior traders

Experience of co-location build out and support

Skills / Aptitude Required

Supporting a Unix based infrastructure

SQL (Sybase / Oracle)

Excellent communicator to technical and non-technical business users.  Able to work well in a cross-disciplined team and alone with minimum supervision

Pro-active, thorough, organised and energetic

Excellent problem solver with a commitment to thorough root cause analysis and business process improvement

Skills / Aptitude Preferred

General understanding of common financial trading algorithms

General understanding of exchange connectivity

ITIL knowledge

Microsoft Windows

Scripting (e.g. Perl/shell, JavaScript, vbscript)
