Click Here DUTIES: Back to top What are the Major Duties of this Position? As an Electronic Technician, the incumbent is charged with the responsibility of maintaining the physical security of the institution through installation, maintenance and repairs of an array of electronic systems inclusive, but not limited to, PBX telephone switch, trunked radio systems, fire alarm systems, perimeter detection systems, programmable logic controllers and CCTV/DVR systems. These systems are critical to the physical security of the institution in preserving the safety and well-being of staff and the inmate populace. Provides technical support during the preparation of drawings and specifications for electronic and telecommunication equipment as required by BF Projects, Work Orders, etc. Conducts inspections and performs preventive maintenance as required by policy. Develops schedules for the life cycle replacement of telecommunication systems and electronic equipment, including telephone switchgear, radio equipment, etc. The incumbent is responsible for the installation, maintenance, modification, trouble shooting, and repair of a wide variety of sophisticated and complex electronic and electro-mechanical systems specific to a correctional environment. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staffs correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Back to top How Do I Qualify for this Position? To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Education : There is no substitution of education for specialized experience. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in demonstrating the ability to provide technical support, manage, monitor and develop schedules of all electronic equipment, including telephone switchgear and radio equipment. Experience in installing, operating, and the maintenance of telecommunication systems and electronic equipment as required by established policy and procedures. Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.
