I am seeking a seasoned electronics test engineering manager for a leader in the AMI/smart grid and water utility spaces to come in and hit the ground running. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of a new electronic assembly and test capability. Specific objectives include the development and implementation of new electrical test systems, process development and implementation, equipment selection and purchase, as well as refinement of existing electronic test methodology. Additional responsibilities include design for Manufacturability and other design/development related functions. Duties
· Develops hardware: Assists in the development of the circuitry and fixturing required for the production testing (ICT, FVT) of electronic modules and circuit assemblies.
· Develops software: From product specs or test specs, assists in the development of the necessary test software to perform the testing of the electronic modules or circuit assemblies.
· Develops test plans: Responsible for formulation of the test philosophy for the ICT, ATE, MDA, FVT and other system level tests to balance total cost, thru-put, and test coverage in consultation with development engineering.
· Interfaces with vendors: Directs the activities of outside contractors in the design and build of test equipment or test fixtures. This includes generation of requirements, generation and execution of gauge RnR plans, periodic maintenance, AQL testing of new products to ensure process and product maturity.
· Failure data analysis: Analyzes the failure data for defect trends and provides feedback to the manufacturing and/or design team. Documents and archives product test history and report results.
· Maintains knowledge of new testing technology: Maintains current knowledge of latest testing and equipment technologies by attending trade shows, studying trade publications, and benchmarking.
· Maintains existing test equipment: In conjunction with our operations testing lab, provides technical support for the repair of existing in house production test equipment. Develops and maintains PM requirements for the testers.
· Calibration: Partners with Quality to verify the currency of calibration on all new test equipment. Makes arrangements to have the equipment calibrated in accordance with the equipment manufacturers or internal recommendations.
· Creates Test Instructions: Works closely with Manufacturing Engineering to develop operator instructions for the testers, as well as startup and shutdown procedures. Develop and implement training for operator on how to trouble-shoot/diagnose failures.
· Participate as a member of our Electronics and Operations Team: Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies. Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Electronics and Operations Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas of lack of cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues effecting cohesiveness. Actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
· Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives: This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Test Engineer. · 25% - Design, development, and implementation of electronic test fixtures, (circuit, software, firmware), for high volume production application.
· 25% - Provide continuous improvement leadership to drive sustained improvement in electronic KPI’s (key performance indicators)
· 25% - Partner with Supply Chain and Product Engineering for to lead New Product Introductions and Design to Cost Initiatives.
· 20% - Drive “Design for Manufacturing” initiative on current and next generation electronic systems.
· 5% - Field Diagnostics / Troubleshooting
Requirements
· Bachelors degree or higher in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
· 10 - 15 years of experience in high volume electronics manufacturing environment with production test support experience with 5 year of management experience.
· Preferred experience in the automotive electronics manufacturing (QS9000/TS16949) environment.
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, identifies and addresses problems, meet deadlines and stay within budget.
· Generate and champion new ideas and test philosophies. Evaluates new or modified approaches and ideas with an open mind; brings perspectives and approaches together, combining them in creative ways. Looks for new ways to insure product quality as well as process thru-put.
· Experienced with micro controller and full computer based designs, digital and analog interface circuitry. Also familiar with older ladder logic test schemes, as well as experience with RF testing techniques, test coverage and fault grading MFEA.
· Experienced computer software applications development. Proven experience with software development in LabView (or comparable), and C++, C, Basic, Visual Basic. This includes an understanding of SDLC principals, source and release management, etc..
· Extensive understanding of PC based spreadsheet, word processing, data management programs.
· Defines objectives; develops timing plans that are comprehensive, realistic, and effective in meeting goals; develops contingency plans; provides clear direction; monitors progress; follows up to ensure objectives are met; keeps others informed. Insures equipment readiness for program launch.
· Intuitive understanding of mechanical systems.
