Position Description:
Reporting to the Head of Public Policy, EMEA, based in London.
Internal Analysis
1) Analysis of European public policy issues affecting the Firm entailing a deep understanding of the firm's business model and client base, and a close working relationship with business units and infrastructure and independent oversight groups (notably Legal and Compliance). Liaison with U.S. and Asian colleagues will also be important.
2) Providing guidance to internal colleagues on the direction and substance of proposed European policy developed and the potential impacts on the firm, most significantly policy developments at EU level.
3) Providing responses to public consultation exercises, both via industry associations and bilaterally.
External Representation
4) Representation of the Firm's concerns and interests vis-à-vis policy makers at EU level , including the European Commission, the European Parliament, member state representations, ESMA (etc.), and also at national levels, especially national regulators, throughout EMEA.
5) Representing the Firm at industry groups (such as AmCham EU Financial Services Committee) and trade associations (such as BBA, AFME and ISDA) meetings.
6) Providing briefs to senior management for their interactions with the public sector.
Business Support
7) Supporting and advising on the Firm's business relationships with the public sector in the EMEA.
8) Proactively advising business and infrastructure units on the likely impacts of specific policy proposals.
9) Discussing regulatory and political matters with the Firm's clients, bilaterally and through client seminars etc.
Skills Required:
• Relevant work experience in public policy or a related field is required; the ideal candidate may have 2-3 years experience in a similar role.
• 2:1 or higher Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a pertinent subject area (such as European studies, politics, economics or law).
• Some knowledge of the EU policymaking process would be desirable.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Additional European languages would be a distinct advantage.
• A willingness to travel frequently is required.
